Governor’s wife donates to orphanages, hospitals, prisons, ors


As part of the events marking the 26th anniversary of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria at 53, the wife of the Executive Governor of the state, Her Excellency Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio has once again donated food and other items worth thousands of Naira to Care centers, Hospitals and Prisons in the 3 Senatorial Districts of the state.

Among the items given out were bags of Rice, Beans, Yams, Tomatoes, Vegetable Oil; Toiletries such as Tissue, Soap, Detergent among other items. Presenting the gifts, the Honorable Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. (Mrs.) Glory Edet who represented the First Lady said this was just a token from Her Excellency in the spirit of the State Anniversary and the Nation’s independence celebration, she urged the beneficiary homes to use the items efficiently and to the benefits of their respective inmates.

In Her Excellency’s entourage were the wives of the Deputy Speaker AKHA, Mrs. Ime Kierian Akpan, Wife of the member representing Abak/Ukanafun in the state House of Assembly, Mrs. Uyime Akpan, Mrs. Jane Ayang and Mrs. Ovo Joseph, Wives of the members representing Eket and Uyo in the State House of Assembly.

Also in the entourage were the wife of the member representing Abak State Constituency in the state House of Assembly, Mrs Grace Iwok, Wife of the member representing Okobo in the House of Assembly, Mrs Antigha and Wife of the Commissioner for rural development  Barr.(Mrs) Iquo Abia etc.

At Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, the Governor’s wife entourage visited the Holy Family Sisters of the Needy, Ikpe Ikot Nkon. On hand to receive them was the Matron of the Home, Rev. Sister Judith Okoro who poured encomiums on the Governor’s wife saying that her benevolence towards the needy can never be waved aside. She prayed God to bless the First Lady and Her Husband. While at Ikot Ekpene, the team also visited the Government Children’s Home and presented items to them. Mrs. Christiana George, the matron in charge who also received them with appreciation noted that the items came at the time they needed it most. She said that though Her Excellency has been doing this often, this particular donation will go a long way in helping the home.

Other places visited by the entourage in the senatorial District were St. Louis Centre for Deaf and Dumb, Ifuho, Holy Child Generalate Children’s Home, St. Joseph Major Seminary, Ikot Osurua, Gospel Village Abak, St. Joseph Rehabilitation Centre, Ukana Iba, Ikot Ekpene Prison and Abak Prison.

When Her Excellency’s entourage visited the Akwa Ibom Special Children Centre, I.B.B Way in Uyo Senatorial district, Mrs. Lawrencia Bassey who received them  eulogized the Governor’s Wife for her magnanimity towards the less privileged in the State. She said that what she and her team has done shows that they love God, adding that only God will reward the labour of their love.

At the Children Correctional Centre, Mrs. Ikwo Abia, while presenting the items on behalf of Her Excellency said it was in line with the spirit of celebrating the state’s 26th anniversary and the country’s 53rd independence. Mrs. Abia advised the officers in charge of the Centre to use the items efficiently and judiciously.

The Mother Charles Walker Vocational Training Centre, Uyo was the next stop for Her Excellency’s entourage and Mrs. Jane Ayang, who presented the items, seized the opportunity to appreciate the Matrons of the centre for dedicating their lives in the service of humanity.

Responding on behalf of the staff and management of the Home, Sister Matilda Inyang thanked God and the Governor’s Wife for the items presented to them, expressing that they received it with all pleasure, while praying God to bless the works of the Governor and his Wife.  Sister Matilda noted that the centre which was established decades ago currently carters for 27 children; some of which are Orphans, less privileged and motherless. Other places visited by the entourage included Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent De Paul, Lutheran Church Children’s Home, Ikot Otong Nsit, Nsit Ibom L.G.A, Qua Iboe Church Leprosy Hospital, Ekpene Obom, Etinan and Uyo respectively.

In Eket Senatorial District, Her Excellency’s entourage first port of call was the Motherless Babies Home of Mkpok, Onna L.G.A where they were welcomed with a Song rendition by the Children. Receiving the items, the Matron of the Home, Deaconess (Mrs.) Uduak Umoh appreciated Her Excellency’s gestures towards the Home, saying that words cannot express her joy. She thanked the team for making out time from their busy schedule to present the items to the Home, and prayed that the God of the needy will surely speak on their behalf.

The team progressed to Ikot Abasi Prisons where they were welcomed by the Assistant Comptroller of Prisons, ASP William Moses who received the food items from Mrs Grace Iwok, and thanked Her Excellency for always remembering those behind bars. He noted that in line with the reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration agenda of the prisons, the food items and toiletries will go a long way in ameliorating the challenges faced by the inmates. ASP Williams Moses prayed for continuous wisdom for the State Governor and his Wife in piloting the affairs of the state.

Also, in Eket Prisons, the Deputy Comptroller of prisons, Mr. Peter Udoh thanked Her Excellency for her love and passion for the inmates. He described Her Excellency as a compassionate mother, stressing that this Government has been very kind to the Nigerian Prisons.

Other places visited were Psychiatric Hospital, Eket, Special children Home Idong Iniang, Eket and the Salvation Army’s Children’s Home.
