Our government will be a popular participatory government, reduced to the simplest term; a government that will exist to satisfy the needs of the people, promote their happiness, welfare and adequately consider the general impression of the average citizen. The government will neutralize the causes of political friction and bitterness, and it will not be a government where the Commissioner, Board members or elected people are reduced to mere observers that have no say in formulation and direction policy; they will be involved both individually and as a team. We should be united in pursuance of our goals; all need to rise up together from nooks and crannies, join hands in unison whether we are rich or poor, boy or girl, politician or civil servants, to salvage this prosperous state of ours. The common slogan which must be on the lips of all should be: “All hands on deck”. We all are involved in this state-building task and any attempt towards self-exclusion will be prevented.
Akwa Ibom State, a land literally flowing with milk and honey is stupendously endowed with human and natural resources; a state that holds out the greatest hope of Nigeria, being rich and populous. Infact, false impressions will not be given as in the counting days of Godswill Akpabio. Visible evidence will be shown and all the years of neglect will soon be corrected, but for now there should be no negative comments. There is also no need of asking if our state will get rid of these negative aspirations of Akpabio and the kind of consolation theology that would be preached to the people if Akpabio makes it through his mess. Although, the teeth must learn to chew with caution until the rotten tooth is pulled out, all effort are on top gear to redress the ugly picture painted by Governor Akpabio’s regime.
It was a mere window dressing, Akwa Ibom by virtue of its massive natural resources has been used and abused. All major construction companies, oil companies and others operating in the state are controlled by strangers, while qualified youths, men and women of the state roam aimlessly on the street. Qualified youths are not considered for employment neither are indigenes considered for juicy contract in the state. Compensation from oil exploration, spillage and production which is supposed to be paid adequately is not paid; our environment and the ecosystem have been devastated.
Major projects earmarked for execution years back and this financial year will soon be taken off the ground. Our Governor-in waiting, with his eagerness and grim-determination promised to put things in order. Pre-democracy groups should spring up and not be afraid of death squad; since Engineer Frank Okon has come to open political competition of which we clamored for, we should not to allow a person or group with their mad desire to sit tight on power and foolishly remain constant as a northern star, stressing that all filthy political situation will not be given a chance. Deliberate effort have been seriously geared to kill such ideas hence, everybody must see his/herself as a politician with conscience. His Excellency, Engineer Frank Okon advised the Ibibios to avoid planning venom of vengeance against Godswill Akpabio or any other tribe, stating further that whatsoever a man soweth so shall he reap; that any evil done by man to man must surely be repressed later, if not now and by God, if not man because the victory of evil over good is temporary.
Governor Akpabio has failed to know that Akwa Ibom State is a highly sophisticated state with high political awareness; a state highly concentrated with intellects and elite, that is why he will not escape the trap. Any state with a combination of these characteristics is bound to be more intricate and complex than a less sophisticated one with the level of expectation being higher and the degree of criticism, acute. “A giant who rejected God’s initiative and so became an ant”. He even altered the political landscape with the highest level of sophistry that made ACN reject the result of the 2011 governorship race. That marked a constitutional robbery.
Aristotle, one of the earliest philosopher said that man is a political animal. In my view, I believe however that some men are less political than others, and I know actually that Governor Akpabio belong to this latter category. He will soon feel like a fish out of the water; his removal from office will be a packet of surprise. Supporters of truth and positive change will be walking briskly with an air of confidence and in the court room when the judgment is delivered, his supporters will sit motionless and dazed, wondering whether the judgment is real or someone is playing a practical joke on them. Their attempt to contact anybody or place will be fruitless. In God’s judgment, there no appeal.
