The sagacious dexterity of this man's versatility is
superlatively amazing", I thought to myself; as I listened to him speak.
Indeed, I have missed a lot this one whole year I have spent outside the state.
I have seen, read about and heard of people who fit perfectly into the
leadership position they occupy and those who do not as well but it is
recherché to come across a person who is
rather higher than the position he occupies especially when it is actually the
highest position that there is. These were the thoughts flowing through my mind
as I listened to my friend and father address the good people of Akwa Ibom
State at the interdenominational service held at Ibom Hall on Sunday 22nd of
September at the banquet held at Le meridian Hotel in celebration of the 26th
anniversary of the Land of Promise.
Albeit, the man knows too well how to regale his people;
oratory has always been his forte, politics his blessings, Christianity his
devotion, and industry his passion and many more. These were brought to the
fore at the peak of the gathering when His Excellency presented three questions
to the people as follows:
1. " since the Uyo senatorial district has held the
reins of power in the state right from its creation in 1987 till 2007, is it
FAIR that they return to the seat of power again in 2015 ?"
2. " since the people of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial
District are now in power since 2007, would it be FAIR for them to retain power
come 2015?"
3." is it FAIR for the people of Eket Senatorial
District who have never occupied governorship position in the state from its
creation till date to be allowed to produce the next governor of the state come
2015?"
The crowd's response to the first two questions was in
volcanic negation and the last a resounding affirmation!
Then, Our Lordship proceeded to question whether the youths
will allow their conscience to be bought with money when the time comes and
this one was rather a take home assignment to be submitted in actual
fulfillment of the process requirement come 2015.
Be that as it may, one cannot help but infer more questions
that must be answered if the holy year 2015 is not to be defiled, some of which
are as follows:
1. Whether His Excellency, Dr. Godswill Obot Akpabio intends
to produce his successor himself or allow the people of Akwa Ibom State do the
selection themselves?
2. If he is to produce his successor come 2015 then how is
he sure of success in that mission, will the people of Akwa Ibom accept his
choice or fight it?
3. If the people of Akwa Ibom are allowed to make the
selection from Eket Senatorial District, how assured is he that the process may
not be hijacked or that the people's choice will not turn around to be a torn
in his flesh?
4. If the people of Eket Senatorial District are to produce
the Governor in 2015, will it be FAIR to say that since the Ibibio and Annang
tribes of the Uyo and Ikot Ekpene Senatorial Districts respectively produced
the governors in their turn then the Oro tribe should equally be allowed to
produce the Governor in its time as the majority in that district?
5. If the Oro tribe were to be asked to produce the
governorship candidate for the Eket Senatorial District, what is the assurance
that the Ibibios outside and within the Senatorial District will not form an
alliance against that?
6. If the Ibibios in the Eket Senatorial District are
required to produce the Governorship candidate for the district, how shall we
define the true Ibibios fom that district?
7. Is it true that His Excellency talked President Goodluck
Jonathan into sacking Prof. Ita Ewa as Minister of Science and Technology to
scuttle his Governorship ambition in order to make way for Prof. King at the
behest of some forces in the first lady's cot?
8. Is it true that Mr. Emmanuel Udom, the present Secretary
to the State Government has before now been the conduit through which the state
fund was being embezzled by His Excellency who now intends to make him his
successor come 2015?
9. If the present SSG is truly to succeed our Excellency,
how on earth are the people of Akwa Ibom State expected to accept such a man
when all they know of him is no more than they've been told on the pages of
newsprints and who himself undoubtedly doesn't seem to know the people and the politics?
10. What are the Governor and people of Akwa Ibom state to
do about the wind of words that the Presidency already has a candidate in Eket
Senatorial District who is of the Ijaw extraction?
11. What does His Excellency intend to do also about the
indications that the former President of the Federation, Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo
(Rtd.) already has a governorship candidate from the very same district in one
of his old girls?
12. Is it true that His Excellency has ordered Hon. Bassey
Etienam to contest for the hill top mansion after he informed his Excellency of
his interest for the senate amidst the overwhelming agitations of his people that the only success recorded
by his stay at the State House of Assembly is in his talent to raise for
himself more enemies than the oxygen he breathes and the patent pedigree he has
as the most non-performing legislator in the state?
13. Is it also true that His Excellency was the one who
asked Mr Larry Esin to misdirect some of the population of the Oro nation by
contesting against him in 2007 and 2011 and shall in return hand over to the
camp-walker come 2015?
14. Is the Governor equally aware of the plan by the
Udoedehe sect to reprise the blow of 2011 by joining forces with Obong Umana
Okon Umana and their prodigal chieftain, now Executive Chairman of Eket Local
Government Area, Mr Willie Akpan who since his emergence as the chairman has
utterly rid the entire local government structure of all PDP faithfuls by replacing them with his
Comrades from the Action Congress of Nigeria and empowering the others with all
the monies collected from oil companies in the local government, all in
preparation for 2015.
15. Since His Excellency's generosity is a gesture
appreciated by all and sundry how then are the people of Akwa Ibom expected to
usher into the hill top mansion anybody who is any less generous considering
now that HE is asking the people of Akwa Ibom state not to consider money in
their exercise of franchise ?
17. Is it true that it is his Excellency has been the one
suggesting the intension to contest for the seat of governorship to every
single person who has hitherto so indicated and if true, how does he intend to
resolve the conflict?
18. If His Excellency intends that the Oro nation produce
the governor in 2015, how then does he intend to handle the incessant interplay
of blackmail and perfidy within the hydra headed 'Afang Ki' community?
19. Supposing His Excellency has chosen a candidate from the
Eket Senatorial District, is he prepared to handle the overwhelming interplay
of blackmails, accusations and rejection if any is against his endorsed
successor?
20. Now that His Excellency has enjoined the youth not to
sell their votes for money, the question on the mind of every youth now is
"what shall be our stake come 2015?"
In the answers to these questions lies the peaceful
resolution of the many troubles brewing over the race to the Hilltop Mansion
come 2015. These will go a long way in determining the state of our union as a
people for generations to come.
