Senator Paulker Football Club of Bayelsa State have emerged the winning team of the 7th edition of Chief Godswill Akpabio under 18 boys international unity football tournament.

Senator Paulker F.C. won the tournament after beating Bright Stars F,C, of Eket 4-2 on penalties shoot out after playing 90 minutes and result ended stalemate at Uyo Township Stadium.

Apart from winning the trophy, Kakuri Academy of Kaduna emerged fair play team of the tournament, Victory Academy of Ikot Ekpene won the best behaved team, William Pius of Bright Stars F.C. was the best goal keeper, and Newman Bukara was the talent of the tournament while Justice Ekpenyong was the most valuable player of the tournament.

Presenting the trophy to the winning team the state governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio who was represented by his P.A. on Youths Mobilization Mr. Emmanuel Ekpenyong commended the organizers of the tournament (Grassroots Sports Federation, South-South Zone) for always developing sports from the grassroots as well as discovering talented players through the competition.
Akpabio commended the winning team for their determination to compete out of 46 participating teams to emerge the winning team. In an address, the coordinator, Grassroots Sports federation of Nigeria (GRASOF) South-South zone, Comrade John Ekpenyong thanked the governor for sponsoring and sustaining the competition for seven years now, disclosing that the first, second and third placed teams will also be sponsored to participate at various international football tournament in Denmark, England and Sweden respectively. “this has been made possible courtesy of our fruitful partnership with our international sports partners, Top Sports”.

He announced that nineteen youths of the state origin have been selected by Top Sports to play professional football abroad, with the first batch of three players traveling with its officials to Finland while the other sixteen will take their turn in January, 2014.

Special assistant to the governor on Bureau of Sports and Youths Development, Mr. Samuel Frank who was represented by director of sports, Coach Aniedi Dickson commended the organizers of the stating that the competition has gone a long away to develop sports in the state even as he promised enabling environment for sporting activities in the state.
