 Akpabio, Ita Enang, Ekerete Ekpenyong ors bag AKIA awards

The State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio has emerged the Akwa Ibom Jubilee Governor of the state since its creation in 1987; after scoring the highest votes cast by the Akwa Ibom people in the State and Diaspora, defeating Obong Victor Attah, Air Cmdr Idongesit Nkanga (Rtd) and Obong Akpan Isemin.

The jubilee awards ceremony which was organized by Akwa Ibom Icons Awards (AKIA) took place at the Civil Service Auditorium of The State Secretariat in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, recently.

Also winning the award were Senator Ita Enang, Hon. Ekerete Ekpenyong and Barrister Effiong Abia who emerged the Akwa Ibom Jubilee Legislator, Akwa Ibom Jubilee Chairman and the Akwa Ibom Jubilee Commissioner respectively. Edidem (Dr.) Akpabio Udo Ukpa won the Akwa Ibom Jubilee Life Time Achievement Indigene Award while High Chief Peter Ojemen, Chairman Dan-P Communications emerged the winner of Akwa Ibom Jubilee Ambassadorial Award.

In the School category, Urban Primary School of Ikot Ekpene and Dove International Schools, Uyo won the best Public and Private Nursery/Primary School Award while Top Faith International Schools, Mkpatak and Methodist Boys Secondary School of Oron won the best Private and Public Secondary School Award.

CCECC won the Jubilee construction company Award; AKBC Radio won the Jubilee electronic media Award while Pioneer Newspaper won the Jubilee print media house Award. 

Chatting with pressmen shortly after the conferment of awards to the recipients, the Executive Secretary of the Akwa Ibom Icons Awards, Prince Ene Babaowo said the award was to celebrate Akwa Ibom people who have demonstrated the spirit of uncommon enterprise and also to recognize those who have performed creditably well in their various fields of business endeavors and have contributed in promoting the state since its creation. He expressed that the award presentation began 7 years ago and that this year’s conferment of the award is the 3rd season while noting that the award has been able to provide a business score card to both political office holders and others in their different fields of enterprise.

Prince Ene Babaowo maintained that the Akwa Ibom Icon Awards remains the first cooperate award-giving body in the state and Nigeria at large to have a transparent process that will bring out the deserved persons for awards.
