Contrary to rumours making the rounds on the internet, the relationship of Governor Godswill Akpabio and Nigeria’s Presidency remains very cordial, Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah has said.
The Information Commissioner, while dissecting the contents of the story about the purported banning of Governor Akpabio from visiting Aso Rock, Nigeria’s seat of power, said the story has exposed the intents of mischief makers who did not wish President Goodluck Jonathan and Governor Akpabio well.
Describing the tale as “stemming from the evil imagination of the sponsors,” Mr. Umanah who spoke to reporters in his office said, nothing has affected the conviviality enjoyed by Governor Akpabio at the Presidency.
Mr. Umanah who reiterated the unwavering loyalty of Chief Akpabio to President Jonathan and his transformation agenda, recalled that only recently, at the Inter-Denominational Thanksgiving Service to mark the 26th Anniversary of Akwa Ibom and Nigeria’s 53rd Independence Anniversary, the Governor personally prayed specifically for the continued success of Nigeria’s first family.
For the avoidance of doubt, “Governor Akpabio”, according to the Commissioner, “will continue to be at the fore front of the campaign for the policies and programmes of President Jonathan and everything he stands for in the Nigerian polity, now and in the future.” He advised political jobbers who wish to score cheap political points for their paymasters, through conventional and social media, to always consider the overriding interest of Nigeria before going to town with outright fabrications and untruths, which are capable of misleading innocent and unsuspecting citizens.
Urging members of the public to discountenance the story, the Information Boss decried the negative use of social media platforms like FaceBook and Twitter by detractors of Mr. President and Governor Akpabio. He described the detractors as enemies of peace and progress of Nigeria.
