I want to start by appreciating God for the gift of life and I believe you will agree with me that there is nothing God appreciate and adore like praise.
Today we are on a course and on this course we will be looking at covenant and I have decided to divide this message by God’s grace into two categories viz; Gods’ Covenant and Personal Covenant.
God promise Abraham in Genesis 15 that he will cause his generation to increase and flourish as stars in the sky, he keyed into it and there is a testimony form the promise.
What is Covenant?
Covenant is an agreement made between two parties. This can also be referred to as an agreement reached between two or more people after due consultation. An agreement can not become active when a force does not act on it that is to say something must trigger the agreement for it to become active and I will call that trigger force ‘believe’. What you’ve come to believe is what works for you that is why soothsayers and herbalist does not take into granted the concoction given to them by their master because that is what they believe in. This is exactly what I am telling you now ‘believe’.
99% of personal covenant are negative in nature, this is because it is believed to be an inheritance you inherit from your family, friends or you community (this includes what you grew up with). This personal covenant is causing problem today in our society. Take for instance, we are in the month of September and people name it ‘ember’ with the idea that people use to die well well - they will tell you. So because of that whenever we approach such month in a year you see so many people being startle and panic-stricken wondering if their turn to die has come. This is the reason God is speaking in Hebrews 8:8-9 that “I will make a new covenant with you not according to the covenant that I the Lord made with your forefathers…..” Tell yourself now ‘there is a change’; there is a change because the former things have pass away.
One of the negative covenants is one that is portrayed in Exodus 32. The children of Israel was not patient verse 1 “Now when the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, they gathered together to Aaron and said to him, ‘come, make us gods that shall go before us for as far as this Moses the man who brought us up out of the Egypt we do not know what has become of him” Have you seen how ungrateful human beings are? Involving oneself in evil covenant can bring untold sickness and poverty to the entire generation if care is not taken. Little did they remember the man that with his hand and the help of the Lord Almighty lead them out from the land of bondage to the land of bounteous, although they said and I quote ‘…Moses the man that brought us up out of the land of bondage’ unquote what type of idea are you nursing now?
Consequence of Personal Covenant:
Proverbs 15:14 says “The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge but the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness”. Do not allow any body to deceive you; no one can give out what he doesn’t have. How can you have an agreement to execute a plan when you don’t know anything about the future? Why not allows the chief planner to plan only to follow what he says – The Bible.
Death: Impatience is one of the factors that can lead you to death and sorrow.
