The federal government
has through the National University commission NUC directed universities
to stop the payment of salaries to the striking lecturers. This was
confirmed by the lecturers after their meeting in Abuja recently.
Speaking after the meeting, the zonal chairman in Abuja said ‘the federal government has through the National University Commission stopped the payment of our salaries effective September this year and since then our salary we not been paid’.

He however confirmed that
ASUU has resorted to other means of helping their members such as
distributing food items and soft loans to its members. The move by
federal government may not yield dividends as the lecturers are resolute
to continue the 100 day of strike.
Meanwhile, the senior
staff of Nigeria University Association of Nigeria University SSANU has
called off its one week old strike. According to a statement the
decision to call off the one old strike was informed by the federal
government compliance with the association’s demands.
The senior staff had embarked on a strike due to the nonpayment of their August and September salary.
