Onyeka Onwenu gets political appointment

Nigerian veteran musician Onyeka Onwenu has been appointed as the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Women Development (NCWD) in Abuja.

According to Thisdaylive, Onwenu’s appointment was made official in a letter signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Ayim Pius Ayim.

According to Thisdaylive, the Elegant Stallion confirmed the appointment in a telephone conversation. ‘Yes, it is true; but I am in Enugu right now’, Onwenu is reported to have said.

The award-winning singer /actress who was a judge on the just-concluded Glo X-Factor is not new to politics as she previously contested and lost a chairmanship election for Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State under the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party.

The 2006 African Movie Academy Award winner for ‘Best Actress in a Supporting Role’ was previously the chairperson of the Imo State Council for Arts.
