It is no news that the management of Akwa United Football Club was sacked two days after the team struggled to escaped relegation on the last day of the 2012/2013 Nigeria Professional Football League.
The chairman of Akwa United board,
Mr. Isong Isang who is also the chairman, Akwa United management committee had
while breaking the news at the player’s camp said it was necessary to dissolve
the management of the team in order to reposition Akwa United for a better
productivity in the next football season.
Isong Isang who was
accompanied with other board members had thanked the management members for
their service and contributions throughout last football season and called on
the people of the state to still support the club in its matches next season as
the club will do everything possible to impress soccer fans.
THE INK also gathered that a
new management team will soon be set up. Information reaching our spots desk
has it that some management members may return when the new management will be
reconstituted. Meanwhile, former media
officer of the club, Mr. Uwem Ekoh thanked the board for giving him the
opportunity to have served the club in that capacity.
A sports administrator in the
ministry of youth and sports while exchanging views with our correspondent
said, the sack of the management of the team was long overdue and maintained
that this is the time for Akwa United to go for the best hands in its
management cadre. He said, “The team needs a technical coach now that football
has changed and not just a manager”.
