Avoid legalizing forgery in Nigeria, Mr. President BY AKPANDEM

Everything centers on the suit between Engineer Frank Okon and Governor Godswill Akpabio pending in the Court of Appeal in Abuja. Akwa Ibom people need a fair judgment to avoid wrecking the boat of the nation, which as a result, will tear the country apart. The international observers are still monitoring the case to ascertain whether there are deceitful activities lined up, designed to give false impression. There is tension created by the forgery suits in the country; it is still very high as the dust raised have by no means settled down, and if the case is not given fair judgment, it will threaten the national unity. Please don’t allow Akwa Ibomites to say; ‘only God will save us from the evil hand of President Jonathan’.

Whosoever came to power through the back-door should be dealt with squarely and objectively. By your speeches and promises to restore peace and stability in the country, much is expected of you and failure to stand by those words will mean you have abetted the prevail of justice. Presently, accusing fingers are pointing at you; the populace is waiting to witness your verdict of the judgment which is capable of throwing the country into a state of doom. I pray you to note that the supreme pontiff prayed and blessed Engineer Frank Okon (Pope); so don’t allow that blessing to turn into a curse for you, be very neutral and avoid God’s wrath. I humbly emphasize that as you continue to monitor the case, you should take necessary steps to ameliorate the situation. To this extent, the good people of the State want you to play your role actively by fulfilling your due obligation and responsibilities.

We want a new world, where no citizen is oppressed; where all are judged properly and not by a person’s prowess. The law-abiding citizens of the state should not be made to undergo political oppression hence, justice and fair-play must be ensured to sustain our morale and enhance our overall well being. We should not be neglected justice-wise too. Without an efficient court around us, life and the Rights of a common man will be paralyzed.

Mr. President, these pitfalls, if not attended to will cause the failure and fall of your regime, but if treated well, will close doors to recurrence. No cover-ups or sit-upons can solve the problem. I constantly remember the famous maxim of Lt. General Danjuma that “a facilitating and indecisive leader is a curse to his subordinates”.

Heaven will speak and no peace will reign if a wrong and sided judgment is delivered. This case is crying loudly for national concern, and if not carefully tackled, will pervade all the scratch of our society. In order words, you would have firmly planted a seed of discord and thus, make in vain the efforts of our founding fathers.

The cloudy atmosphere and inauspicious events mounting Akwa Ibom State presently is because of the same forgery case. A storm has gathered; it is apparent that, some far-reaching solution has to be found because the case has gone beyond such as could be solved by a few palliative measures. This matter of great concern is calling for result; ability and initiative so, don’t be tossed around by a forger. Akwa Ibom which had stood as one solid rock when you came into power has now become fragmented because of partial judgment; it has been torn into hostile tribal factions. Don’t allow your regime to muddle through from one blunder into another. The public should not be left waiting in vain; the punishment befitting such heinous crime should be effected without bias or favoritism. Stand by the law and let it offend or hurt whosoever goes contrary. A man who vacillates and procrastinates normally declines in popularity until he sinks to a level where nothing but the abuses and curses of the people who once adored him keeps him company. When this happens, people who knew of his former standing will begin to wonder what would have reduced his 5 years status in so short a time.

Let historians writing about your regime, find this experience one of the inspiring in history, let it not be negative oriented but rather serve as a redeeming feature. Avoid the burst and flare of violence or credence in buttress favour. Your motives should be purely patriotic and not lopsided so that you do not cause suspicion in the minds of the people of the state. A stitch in time saves nine.
