Federated Chapel wins 2013 SWAN cup BY EMMANUEL AKPAN


Federated Chapel Football Team of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State chapter have emerged the winning team of the 2013 sports writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) football Cup.

 Federated chapel football team popularly known as “Federated Lions” won the cup after beating Information Chapel of the ministry of Information on penalties shoot out after playing 90 minutes and result ended stalemate at Uyo township stadium last week Monday.

In a brief chat with our sports Editor, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) secretary for the 2013 SWAN Games, Mr. Amos Etuk congratulated the winning team for their outstanding performances throughout the competition which led them to emerging the champion.

Expressing his happiness, the in-form captain of the federated lions, Nsibiet John said with boldness that he was not surprise to lead the team to winning ways as well as emerging the champion in this year’s SWAN games, adding that he was very sure of the trophy. He expressed gratitude to God for the feat and maintained that God was on their side. In his words “I’m very happy today because I have created a record in my chapel for leading the team to win her first ever gold trophy in the history of the chapel. You could recall that federated teams have never gotten to this level since this competition started some years ago but during my tenure as the captain we have won this cup, I am so happy”, he said.

Also speaking, the assistant captain, Comrade Emmanuel Akpan said “we give God Almighty the glory today because we were underrated of surviving in the group stage, but we have proved so many people wrong by winning the trophy”.

Coach of the side Kyte Usen expressed excitement and said his boys played according to instructions. The chapel Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Effiong said he is grateful to God for seeing the team to victory and promised to ensure that the chapel celebrate the team and reward the players whom he described as worthy ambassadors of the Federated Chapel.

Emmanuel Effiong also maintained that the chapel will ensure that it buys a new set of jerseys for the competition in its next outing.
