Governor Godswill Akpabio yesterday approved the sacking of
three commissioners from his cabinet. Those sacked are, Austin Mbeh who served
in the ministry of transport, Martyns Udoinyang of the Commerce ministry and
Soni Ayang of Economic Development. The Special adviser dropped is Hon Samuel
Frank who served at the Bureau of youth and sports development.
All the dropped Exco members it was gathered are loyalists
of the sacked SSG Obong Umana Umana. Competent sources told our reporter at the
ministry of Information that some of these Exco members were always leaking
information to Mr. Umana ever since the Nsit Ubium born ex SSG was dropped by
the Governor in a commando style more than one month ago.
Although reasons to their sack was not made known as at
press time, our investigative reporter gathered that it may not be unconnected
with actions they displayed which was believed to be inimical to the succession
plans of the Governor, Godswill Akpabio.
But those who claim to know are of the view that Mbeh was
not an Umana loyalist and that the ex commissioner for transport is booted out
because of his interest to the National Assembly come 2015 elections. It could
be recalled that Obong Umana was instrumental to the appointment and retainship
of Sonni Ayang, Martyns Udoinyang.
THE INK gathered that the decision to drop these Exco
members was reached in a meeting the Governor held with some very close members
of his think tank. The system was really worried that Umana Umana was getting
feelers in the exco and there was a need to do away with all apparatus that had
to do with the former strongman of the Government House. The sack had greatly
shocked the affected persons and their loyalists including the remaining exco
members, a commissioner told our reporter.
As at the time of the announcement, the Governor was said to
have been outside the town. A Government House source told THE INK that the
Governor directed the Information Commissioner Aniekan Umana to ensure the news
is aired while he was away.
With this approach adopted by the Governor, tension has
engulfed the remaining Exco members who do not know who will be the next.
