Uyo cult war: We are on top of the situation, says police boss

Uyo cult war: We are on top of the situation, says police boss
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Etim Dickson says the police formation in the state is on top of the situation and has succeeded in tackling the cult war that has engulfed Uyo for the past one week. Etim Dickson said in an sms reply that some of the culprits has been arrested and taken to the police headquarters at Ikot Akpanabia.

It could be recalled that for the past one week, there have been a cult clash in Uyo resulting to the loss of lives and damaged of properties. Streets of Udoette, Nkemba, some adjoining streets in Nwaniba, Esuene Street, and adjoining streets in Babangida Avenue were all held to rampage when the boys clashed sending shivers down the spines of so many persons especially innocent ones.

Streets like Umoren, Inim Etokakpan, Udotungubo and the adjoining streets of Aka road and Udo Umana were not left out. They were held hostages.
Our crime desk gathered that the fight actually started at one of the most popular clubs in Uyo situated at Ewet Housing when a rival cult person clashed with a member of another cult group, penultimate Friday night. The minor clash resulted in a stampede that most of those involved sustained minor degrees of injuries. An attempt to settle the matter the next day proved abortive as the cultists refused to see eye to eye and settle the matter. A competent source said the cultist who sustained the most injuries insisted on vengeance and hence the escalation of the battle.

But the cult clash took a terrible dimension were over twenty lives are said to have been lost, the police are said to have stepped into the matter and rose to calm the situation. The police according to Etim Dickson have succeeded in tackling the menace and the situation in Uyo have been brought under control.
Etim Dickson however warned those who are at large and still causing problems to desist as the law will soon catch up with them.
