Helen Esuene did not boycott town hall meeting

Helen Esuene did not boycott town hall meeting

Contrary to speculations and reports in a certain section of the media that Senator Helen Esuene of Eket Senatorial District boycotted the Town Hall meeting that was held for Eket federal constituency at the Eket Local Government council hall last week because of her disagreement with the state Governor Godswill Akpabio, information monitored through investigations revealed that the former first lady was in full support of the initiative and was only unavoidably absent due to very pressing and very serious legislative engagements at the red Chambers of the National Assembly.

The senator had since however sent her apologies to the Government and the people of the state especially of the senatorial district which she represents. Information from the office of the Senator indicates that apart from the tight engagement of the Senator in Abuja, Helen Esuene was also meant to be a part of the first lady Dame Patience Jonathan’s youth summit and as an integral part of the planning, she had so much responsibilities that made her to be unavoidably absent at the event.

Youth Group supports power shift Eket Senatorial District

As the clamour for the governorship of the State to shift to Eket Senatorial District is intensified, the Akwa Ibom Amalgamated Youth Movement, a pressure group in the state has pledged its total support to the course.

The group informed our Correspondent through its Director of Media and Strategy, Mr. Dickson Akpan that “the  is not only timely, but very reasonable in view of the fact that both Uyo and Eket Senatorial Districts have already produced two notable governors for the state. The move for the shift shows that Akwa Ibom people are thinking more of unity, and a strong desire to avoid any step that will put undue tension on the thin fabrics of the state.”
People of the state have been polarized as to where the governorship of the state should go to in 2015. While some persons believe that it should go to Eket Senatorial District, some think differently.

Governor Godswill Akpabio has on different occasions advised that there should be equity in the rotation of positions in the state, and has always insisted that this is the position of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), noting often that, the PDP will support any move that will unite the people.
It is on the basis of this that more people in the state have increased their agitation for power shift to this senatorial district that have not produced a governor since this new dispensation started in 1999.

2015 is for Eket Senatorial District - Idongesit Ituen

2015 is for Eket Senatorial District - Idongesit Ituen
The former transition chairman of Itu Local Government Area, Hon. Idongesit Ituen says Eket Senatorial District must produce the next Governor of the State and therefore must be encouraged to achieve the feat.

Ituen stated this last weekend in Uyo when he inaugurated the Itu Chapter Executive of Grand Coalition. The former Itu council boss while commending Akpabio for towing the path of equity, justice and fairplay by proclaiming Eket Senatorial District the owner of the Governorship ticket by 2015 said it is unthinkable for someone to feel that Akpabio should not be interested in who succeeds him.

My late husband, Gov Akpabio, 2015 & I

My late husband, Gov Akpabio, 2015 & I

Distinguished Senator Helen Esuene presently represents the people of Eket Senatorial District at the red Chambers of the National Assembly. She is the chairperson senate committee on youths and women development. A member of the ECOWAS parliament, a former minister and a first lady to the then South Eastern states. She has always delivered effectively whenever she is called upon to serve the people and hence her impressive performances at the Senate of the federal Republic of Nigeria. A fortnight ago, she was a guest to Atlantic 104.5fm in a live phone in interview. In the interaction, Mrs. Esuene bore her mind on topical issues. She spoke on the need for women to be encouraged into politics, governance, business and other noble activities. She had kind words for the Governor Godswill Akpabio whom she described as digital. This erudite politician spoke on the pressure from Akwa Ibomites that she should contest the forthcoming 2015 gubernatorial election and added that the influences of her late husband, the Late Brigadier General Udoakaha Jacob Esuene on her life has kept her going. It was a vintage Helen Esuene who spoke. THE INK serves you an extract of the interaction. Enjoy

How do you assess women participation in politics in  Nigeria?

2015: 20 Questions for Godswill Akpabio

2015: 20 Questions for Godswill Akpabio

The sagacious dexterity of this man's versatility is superlatively amazing", I thought to myself; as I listened to him speak. Indeed, I have missed a lot this one whole year I have spent outside the state. I have seen, read about and heard of people who fit perfectly into the leadership position they occupy and those who do not as well but it is recherché  to come across a person who is rather higher than the position he occupies especially when it is actually the highest position that there is. These were the thoughts flowing through my mind as I listened to my friend and father address the good people of Akwa Ibom State at the interdenominational service held at Ibom Hall on Sunday 22nd of September at the banquet held at Le meridian Hotel in celebration of the 26th anniversary of the Land of Promise.
