AKHA wades into communal clash in Itu …As 2017 Appropriation bill passes second reading

Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has called on the federal government and the state Emergency Management agency to as a matter of urgency provide relief materials to victims of a recent clash which occurred at Ayadehe, Oku Iboku and mbiabo communities of Itu local government area. 

The House has also urged security agencies to move into the affected warring communities with a view of contending the insecurity situation reported in the area.

The House resolution which was passed, Wednesday was sequel to a matter of urgent public importance brought before the House by the member representing Itu State Constituency, Hon. Idongesit Ituen, who alerted his colleagues of a recent attack launched on the people of the three communities allegedly by gunmen from neighbouring  Ikot Offiong community. 


Hon Ituen said gun boats, and speed boats numbering about 25 were used by the armed men to unleash attack on the people of oku iboku, Ayadeghe and Mbiabo, a fishing community.

Reacting, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Barr. Onofiok Luke who commended the Itu representative for being in touch with his people, condemned the attack on the people of the area by the hoodlums. 

“We totally as a House, condemn such attack. We commend Hon. Idongesit Ituen for being in touch with his constituents. Let me urge security agencies in the state to redouble effort in making sure that lives and property of the people of Oku Iboku, Ayadeghe, and Mbiabo are protected. We call on relief agencies to move into provide relief to victims’’.

Also during plenary, the 2017 Appropriation bill scaled second reading at the floor of the House. It was thereafter committed to the House Committee on Appropriation and Finance for a thorough job. The Speaker directed the committee to submit report on the budget within three weeks.
