The 2017 Armed Forces Remembrance Celebration ended on Sunday with a charge by Governor Udom Emmanuel on Akwa Ibom people to promote the outstanding legacies of the Nigerian fallen heroes.
The Governor gave this charge at the wreath laying ceremony to conclude activities marking the 2017 Armed Forces Remembrance day held at the state Cenotaph, Uyo.

Describing the legacies of the fallen heroes to be love for the nation void of ethnic biases and fears of the unknown, Governor Udom ured Nigerians to learn to relate with one another, not minding their ethnic or religious affiliations.  He also sued for the commendations for the fallen heroes who defended the nation’s interest and paid the supreme price so we can all live in peace and safety.

The Governor urged everyone to ensure peace in their areas as well as extend a hand of fellowship to members of the families of the fallen heroes.  Mr. Udom Emmanuel who observed that the fallen heroes marched on even in the hearts of the people, pledged continued support of the state government to the betterment of members of the legion as well as of women and children of the fallen heroes in the state.

“We must let the courage and bravery of the Unknown Soldier challenge us and leave us with a deeper faith in this country. We must let his sacrifice spur us to respond to the call of our country and build a nation bound in freedom, peace and unity. Like that old World War song goes, “Old soldiers never die, they just march on…” The Unknown Soldier is not dead; he marches on in our legends and folklore. He lives on in our hearts.”  Governor Udom pleaded.

Highpoint of the event was the release of the pigeons to signify the end of war and beginning of peace in Nigeria, while men of the armed forces had a parade demonstration to show solidarity for the fallen heroes.
