Akwa Ibom Community Shield: FC Okon Lagos through to second round

FC Okon Lagos of Nsit Ibom has qualified for the second round of the 2017 Akwa Ibom Community Shield Football Competition sponsored by the Member representing Itu State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Idongesit Ituen.

To qualify for the second round, FC Okon Lagos defeated Destiny Football Club of Uyo by 4-2 on penalty  shoot-out after a 1-1 full time score-line.

FC Okon Lagos will now meet Ikot Asanga FC in the second round match. And in a bid to put the team in proper shape for this all-important encounter, FC Okon Lagos has played series of friendly matches. In one of the friendly matches, FC Okon Lagos played a 2-2 draw with Iman Ibom United at MAURIC Polytechnic play ground.  The team also played with Destiny Football Club of Uquo Ibeno. 


Speaking with sports journalists in Uyo, the Chief Coach of the team, Akan Sunday Jackson thanked the Special Assistant to the Governor on Ethical and Attitudinal Re-orientation, Hon. Ime Bishop Umoh for promising to sponsor the team to attain greater height.

Coach Akan Jackson described Hon. Ime Bishop Umoh (Okon Lagos) as an illustrious son of Ikot Nya Village, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area who has the interest of his people at heart. “Hon. Ime Bishop Umoh is an outstanding personality who has the interest of his people at heart and has contributed immensely to the development of the community. We are very proud of him and we also thank His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for appointing him as one of his Aides”, Coach Jackson stated.

The soccer tactician noted that through participation in the competition, the youths have been positively engaged. He pledged the support of the youths of the area to enable the Governor’s Aide succeed.

Also speaking, the Team Manager of FC Okon Lagos, Hon. Aniefiok Abang lauded the Governor’s Aide for his interest in the development of the youths.

He prayed God to continue to give Hon. Ime Bishop Umoh the needed wisdom to discharge his duties effectively.
