“Don’t use your loan empowerment to buy wrappers” ..Aks Gov’s wife advises loan beneficiaries

The wife of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Deaconess Martha Udom Emmanuel has advised women of Esit Eket and Ibeno not use the loan empowerment given to them buy rappers and jewelries.

Mrs Udom gave the advised yesterday during the flagoff of women traders revolving loan scheme at Oquo in Esit Eket local government area.

The governor’s wife who was represented at the event by the wife of Commissioner for Works, Mrs Ime Ephraim Inyang said the essence of the interest free loan was to make them self Independent and be able to support their families.

“I want to advised those of you who would want to use the money to buy new rappers and jewelries to desist from such act”


She urged them to make good use of the opportunity and be productive.
Mrs Udom said the scheme is part of her FEYReP which is aimed at empowering young people to be self reliance.

“This is a golden opportunity for you to be industrious and become employers of labour”.

She used thanked the member representing Esit Eket/ Ibeno state constituency, Rt Hon Usoro Akpanusoh for initiating the programme in partnership with her pet  project,  FEYReP.

In his brief remarks, the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Onofiok Luke, said he was happy with Usoro Akpanusoh for initiating the programme, which he said would go along in making the women to assist their families in one way or another.

He thanked the Honourable member whom he described as his brother for distributing the loan equally to the two state constituencies which represents.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare,  Dr Glory Edet, urged the beneficiaries of the working equipment, to make good use of the equipment and employ others who will also benefit from their skills.

On his part, the political leader of Esit Eket, Elder Benjamin Udoabia in his good will massage expressed satisfaction with his representation. He urged him to continue and do more for his people added that is he keeps doing it, 2019 ticket is sure for him. 

He stressed that Esit Eket is not divided, adding that they are in one camp.
Udoabia also charged the beneficiaries to make proper use of it.

Earlier in his address, the member representing Esit Eket/ Ibeno State Constituency Rt Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh said the scheme is a revolving loan with initial deposit of Fifty million naira(N50,000,000.00) 

He said that he had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Capital Bridge microfinance bank with the fifty million naira. The Lawmaker took time to explained how the beneficiaries can access the loan. adding that it is his own way of encouraging the women that doing small business to grow. He urged them to use the loan judiciously. 

“ what we are doing today is what we call women traders empowerment scheme and this scheme is a revolving loan. We’ve signed a memorandum of understanding with the Bridge Microfinance bank with initial deposit of N50million. I would have come here to give women cash but I would not have encouraged for them to grow in small trading business that they are doing and we decided to partner with a finance institution with that deposit, and that memorandum of understanding of 5years which is subject to renewal for another 5years if their report card is such that will continued.”

The loan which he said is a free interest loan will run beyond 2019 if the financial institution will be able to do a proper documentation and a proper trace to ensure that this money is properly utilize. 

Hon. Usoro also presented other items like deep freezers, generators, industrial and manual sowing machines etc to other women who were not beneficiaries of the loan programme. 

Other constituency projects are community center, water project, renovation of Ibeno grammar hostel and health insurance program for women.  

The scheme will ensure 50 woman from his constituency to access this loan. 25 beneficiaries from Esit Eket and 25 beneficiaries from Ibeno.
