Akwa Ibom gets new Commissioner of  Police

Information reaching THE INK Newspaper indicates that, the State commissioner for police Murtala Mani has been transferred. Mani who was posted to A’Ibom by the police hierarchy shortly after the 2015 general elections is less than three years in his service as the Akwa Ibom State commissioner of police.

A civilian member of the PSC in Abuja told our reporter that Murtala Mani is proceeding on a course and may be promoted to the rank of an AIG upon resumption of duties after the course.  The PSC man however stated that in the event where there is no vacancy that Mani will have to be posted to another state to continue as a commissioner.

The CP who contributed his quota towards the security and safety of Akwa Ibom State was to be at the inspiration FM radio 10 Km walk on Saturday but news of his redeployment struck and he stayed away from the physical exercise.


Meanwhile a new CP Mr. Don Awunah has been posted to the state. He was until his appointment as CP in Akwa Ibom State the Force Public Relations officer at Louis Edet House, Abuja.  

Awunah as at the time of filing in this report was yet to resume work. He is however expected to resume today or at most within the week.

With the redeployment of Awunah to A’Ibom as CP, there is optimism that the new CP will use his media related experiences to curb the rate of politicians harassment of journalist using the police. 

Awunah was earlier on the DCP in charge of Homicide Section of Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, FCIID, Abuja.

He holds B.A. Degree in Philosophy from the University of Lagos and M.A. in International Relations and Strategic Studies from the Benue State University, Makurdi.

He is a Fellow of Institute of Security Studies, Fellow of Institute of Corporate Administration, and Member, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR.
Awunah hails from Benue State.
