A former Commissioner for Science and Technology in the state, Mr. Samuel Effanga says 2019 elections presents a good opportunity for the people of Akwa Ibom State to free themselves from the bondage brought upon them by former governor Godswill Akpabio with the imposition of Governor Udom Emmanuel as governor, whom he said is running a government of impunity.
The former House of Representatives aspirant stated this during the formal inauguration of the National Executive Council (NEC) of One Frontiers, one of the support groups of the All Progressives Congress canvassing for the enthronement of an APC government come 2019. He added that over N200m from the state’s treasury was wasted in imposing Udom on the state. According to him: “Nobody should say that there is no money in Akwa Ibom State; if we had used the money that accrued to this state judiciously, we would not be talking about recession in the state today.’’
He described PDP as a dying party; noting that the party was long gone since ex President Olusegun Obasanjo publicly denounced his membership of the party. “Having followed development in the country, I knew that PDP was dead the moment Obasanjo denounced his membership of the party. Tearing his membership card was very significant and proved that the party is no more.
The party will no longer be in existence before 2019 because they are now seeking for a merger.’’ He hailed Senator Nelson for defecting to the APC, noting that it is a bold step by the senator to free himself from the bondage of the PDP. He added that Nelson Effiong’s defection is a clear testament to the fact that the mandate was stolen by the PDP and has now been restored to the rightful owners.
Mr. Effanga pledged his unalloyed support to the All Progressives Congress, stressing that the entire Akwa Ibom State will soon join the party towards ensuring that it take over power in the state come 2019. He added that the current administration was not the choice of the people of Akwa Ibom State, adding that One Frontiers is one of the groups that will see to the installation of a government of the people, by the people and for the people.
Shortly after the inauguration of the NEC, Federal Constituency coordinators and Local Government Coordinators, the Director General (DG) of One Frontiers, Mr. Iniobong John called on members of the group to carry out their responsibility to the best of their ability, noting that with their efforts, APC shall take over the state in 2019. He said that Governor Udom Emmanuel has failed the people of the state. “Udom is a failed technocrat. We must vote him out in 2019. As a matter of fact, we shall also welcome defectors from the PDP. Nelson has already set the template and soon, I know there will be defections. We will accommodate them all.’’
“These people are disgruntled members of the PDP and we need them here. When they come to you, accommodate them. Don’t chase them away.’’
He called on the coordinators to take the gospel of APC to the grassroots. He promised to lead by example and carry all members along in the quest of seeing to the election of an APC governor in the state. He called for commitment from members while advising them against any compromise that may derail the part’s objectives.
31 people were inaugurated to coordinate the Party at the local government level along with others who were given the mandate to work for the APC at the NEC and Federal Constituency levels respectively.
