Info boss harps on professional reportage

Journalists in the State have been enjoined to tow the      path of excellence in their reportage of the State.  

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Charles Udoh who gave the charge during a meeting with the hierarchy of the State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in his office recently, said that positive coverage and marketing of the State will attract tourists and investors. 

Mr. Udoh stressed the need for partnership and good relationship between the State government and the media to make Akwa Ibom a better place to live and do business, given its abundant natural resources. 


The Information boss maintained that such a relationship will not only promote peace and unity but boost effective and efficient Communication/ Information management system in the State. While encouraging journalists on skills development to enhance professionalism, Mr. Udoh advised them to be positive and realistic in their reportage rather than portray the state negatively. The state chairman of the NUJ, Elder Patrick Albert thanked the commissioner for finding time to meet with journalists in the state and highlighted some fundamental issues which will help journalists carry out their responsibilities creditably.  

These, according to Elder Albert, included welfare development scheme for NUJ members and quarterly training of staff within the information sector, among others. The Chairman who used the occasion to make a case for Heath Insurance scheme for Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) due to the daily professional hazards of journalists, disclosed that in order to be ethically compliant, a disciplinary committee will be set up to check the excesses of members. 

Present at meeting were; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Pastor Praise Okon and members of the State Working Committee of the Nigerian Union of Journalists.
