Itiam Etoi attack: Ambassador Ukai Emmanuel cautions youths

… Pleads with Government to relocate Hausa community from their village

A prominent youth leader in the state Abassador Ukai Emmanuel has condemned in strong terms the attacks recently carried out by Hausa scrap men on Itiam Etoi community last week while calling on youths of the area to allow government take charge of the situation.

 Ambassador Ukai, a former President of Itiam Etoi Youths Association said that the attack was uncalled for and decried the level of damage done by the scrap men who settles in the village. He said that the village from onset had not supported the idea of accepting the scrap men to leave permanently in the community. 

Mr Ukai made the comments when he spoke to our reporter on the ugly incident which occurred last week. 

He said, “I have been pleading the youths since the first day of the incident, I begged them not to take laws into their hands since the government was already on top of the matter. 


It is an ugly incident and we are not happy but we don’t want to fight back because Itiam Etoi people are always known for their peaceful nature, we are not saying there should not pass through our land to do business but we are against them leaving with us”. 

The Akwa Ibom Ofon Ama Initiative boss said that the entire Itiam Etoi people have resolved that the scrap men should leave their community since they are not peace loving, he said that it is very sad for his people to be attacked in their land with no just cause. He said that the people of Itiam Etoi are left with no reason but to ask for the immediate relocation of the scrap men so that they will not kill clear the village at night.

He expressed displeasure over the issue and said that the entire community comprising of elders youths, women and Village Council has resolved to ask to the settlers to leave their land with immediate effect.
