Women Affairs Commissioner donates cenotaph to Ini

Governor Udom Emmanuel has charged people elected and appointed into positions of responsibility to endeavour to touch the lives of their constituents by attracting development projects to the area.

The Governor gave the charge when he inaugurated a cenotaph built and donated by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr. Glory Edet to Ini Local Government.

Inaugurating the cenotaph at the Ini Local Government Headquarters Odoro Ikpe, the Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Sir Etekamba Umoren commended the Commissioner, Dr. Glory Edet for her gesture to the people of Ini.  Governor Udom Emmanuel said that through the new cenotaph, Dr. Edet has accorded honour to the unknown soldiers who fought to maintain peace and unity of the country as well as recognizing men of the Nigerian Legion who are alive.

Calling on all to emulate the example of the Commissioner in attracting development to their doorsteps.  The Governor urged the Ini Local Government Area stakeholders to ensure that the cenotaph was maintained and kept clean at all times.  The Deputy Governor, Mr.  Moses Ekpo represented by the Permanent Secretary in his office, Mr. Nkopuruk Ekaiko said the Commissioner has showcased good representation.

The project donor, Dr. Glory Edet said her decision to build and donate the cenotaph was based on the request from the Nigerian Legion in Ini during the Area Council Chairman report last year that Ini had no cenotaph.

According to her, since charity begins at home, it was needful for her to provide her Local Government with a befitting place to lay wreath during the Armed Forces Remembrance day.

Dr. Edet assured that Ini people will continue to stand by the Governor throughout his tenure.

The Commissioner used the occasion to put smiles on faces of the widows of the fallen heroes and men of the Legion from Ini and Ikono Local Government Area by donating wrappers and cash to them.

The State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Colonel Linus Eyo thanked God for using Dr. Glory Edet to uplift the image of the Legion, saying that, she has raised the respect and dignity of the Armed Forces in the country.

The people of Ini Local Government Area reacted positively to the philanthropic gesture of Dr. Glory Edet.

To members of the Nigerian Legion, the political stakeholders, elders, women and youths in the area, the Commissioner has done well by carrying the people along.

The people of Ini who turned out in their numbers to witness the inauguration of the cenotaph admitted that since the creation of the Local Government Area in 1991, it was the first time the area was provided with a cenotaph, thereby making the 2017 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration in the area historic.

The event attracted stakeholders from Ini Peoples Democratic Party faithfuls from Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District and the Chairman of Ikono and Ika Local Government Transition Committees.

In their goodwill messages, the people said that Dr. Glory Edet has demonstrated goodwill exemplified by the PDP and Governor Udom Emmanuel administration.
