The Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East (Uyo) Senatorial District and Chair, Senate committee on Gas. Obong Bassey Albert (OBA) in the spirit of the yuletide has given N9M and 1000bags of his branded rice to the nine local Government Areas that make up Uyo Senatorial District. The Senator who personally visited the nine local government areas and met with the people and other political stakeholders expressed happiness for the support the people gave to him during the election.

 The people-centric Senator started the senatorial tour at Nsit Atai where he was warmly received by the mammoth crowd that waited to receive him. 

In his welcome remarks the political leader of the area, Otuekong Raphael Bassey said the people of Nsit Atai are very happy and proud of the Senator’s representation at the senate and assured the Senator of the people’s continuous support. “With Senator OBA the difference is clear, we will continue to support Senator Albert to represent us well” he stressed.


Also speaking at the event, Barr. Johnson Uduak, the State party officer said the people should continue to work together to deliver PDP while appreciating the exemplary representation of Senator OBA. In his remarks the member representing Nsit Atai at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Mark Esset thanked the Distinguished Senator for the gift at Christmas. ‘’This is the first time a Senator from Uyo Senatorial District is visiting the people like this to report progress and we are happy with the Senator” he pointed out. Esset promised to make available N2M sometime next year to empower the women who have been steadfast in the monthly prayer meeting for leaders at all levels.

Responding Senator Bassey Albert said he is happy to be at Nsit Atai despite the economic recession he still finds it necessary to identify with the people at Christmas. “I want to thank you for the confidence you have in me. Currently the senate is amending the electoral Act to give the electorate more confidence in the system. For instance after an election, the presiding officer has to analyze the votes so that if the card reader does not work the election can be postponed’’ the Senator noted. OBA added that he has Personal Assistants from Nsit Atai and will continue to support development efforts of the Area. 

At Nsit Ibom ,the Senator was received by the people at the residence of the political leader, Otuekong  Idongesit  Nkanga, a former Governor of Akwa Ibom who thanked the Distinguished Senator for the visit and the gifts. ‘’Senator Bassey Albert has deep respect for the people that is why he has personally come to identify with the people in this season of yuletide, we are very proud of him at the senate with the kind of impact he has created there ’Nkanga opined. Other stakeholders in Nsit Ibom including Hon.Nsikak Ikpe, PDP chapter  Chair, Obong Friday Umobio, Nse Udeme poured encomiums on the Distinguished Senator for his amiable leadership style.

          The Senator’s train moved to Ibesikpo where he was again warmly received by the good people of Ibesikpo/Asutan people at the residence of the Commissioner for finance, Mr. Linus Nkan. The Senator thanked the people for the reception and presented N1M and 100bags of rice to the people for Christmas while assuring them of his continuous support and effective representation at the upper chamber. 

In his remarks, the political leader  of Ibesikpo/ Asutan, Mr. Linus Nkan who is also the Commissioner  of finance appreciated Senator Albert  for the visit and promised to ensure that the gifts will be shared to everyone. Nkan extolled the leadership qualities of Senator Albert and again assured him of the people’s support. He said the Governor of Akwa Ibom, Mr. Udom  Emmmanuel has done well in the circumstance of economic recession the country is going through while positing that his people will continue to support PDP in 2019. 

Present at the event were Mrs. Etiebet, SSA to the Gov. on Education monitoring, Mr.Daniel Udosen ,Supervisor on youth and Sport , Chapter Chairman, Elder Okon Edet Offiong  among others.

Senator Bassey Albert later went to Uruan and met the people at the residence of their political leader, Obong Peter Ekpe Atakpo. The political leader of Uruan thanked the Senator for the visit and appreciated the fact that the Senator’s scholarship programme has accommodated so many Uruan people going by the list of beneficiaries that he has from Uruan who are reading exciting courses. He said the people of Uruan are happy about the Senator representation. 

The Distinguished Senator presented the gift to the people and added additional 10 bags of rice and N100,000 to ease the sharing for the area that has 11 wards. He assured the people that they will be properly accommodated in his forth coming empowerment programme in the first quarter of next year.
At Etinan several political gladiators showed up for the event like Obong Paul Ekpo, the State Chairman of PDP, transition Chairman, Mrs Helen Okon, Obong Imoh Udofot, Obong ita Etukudo. otherS were Obong Anietie Atai, Chapter Woman leader, Elder Utin Utin, Obongawan Grace Frank, Obong Ime Brono and Obongawan Veronica and Christ Ambassador Andrew Unwanta. The Senator presented the gifts to the people and promised to do a massive empowerment programme early next year

The State Chairman of PDP, Obong Paul Ekpo said that it is the Senator that  the Apeople will vote for come 2019 while thanking him  for remembering the people at this festive season. He added that PDP will always make a difference in leadership as such they need to support the party at all times. The Senator moved to Uyo and was received by the large crowd led by the Chairman, PDP Uyo Senatorial District, Elder Imo Okon.  

Okon appreciated the Senator for personally creating time to go back to the people. Senator Albert donated N1.1M and 110bags of rice to the good people of Uyo because of their wards composition. The Senator said ‘’Recession or no recession the people of Uyo Senatorial District will continue to enjoy his connect at yuletide while thanking them for their support during the election. 

The event brought together  Elders, youths and women from the local government to include Mr. Eno-Obong Uwah, former Commissioner for Housing and Urban Renewal, Hon Monday Eyo, member representing Uyo State constituency at the House of Assembly, PDP chapter Chairman, Mr Idorenyin Orok, Obong (Barr) Aniedi Ndem, fomer House of Assembly Member, Obong Clement Etok, fomer Chairman, Uyo Barr. Slide, Hon. Nsikak Okon and Obong Ukpong Dan Umoh. 

Others include fomer Chapter Assistant Secretary Uyo LGA – Obongawan Mfon Udopo, Obong David Ukpong, Obong P. J. Okon and Hon Archibong Inyang.

The Senator’s next point of call was Itu LGA were the constituents met at the home of their political leader, Senator Anietie Okon who was obtensible happy with the Senator for his gifts and strides recorded so far at the senate. He assured that the gifts will be adequately shared to all and sundry without rancour

Senator Albert said he will continue to identify with the people and give them effective representation at the National Assembly. One of the indigienes of Itu who benefited from the Senator’s yuletide gifts Victor Effiong applauded the Senator for his steadfastness in giving back to the people. 

“I want to commend Senator OBA for his commitment in serving the people of Uyo Senatorial District. He is the only Senator in recent times that have so reported progress and given back to the people, we can only ask for more grace for him to continue to be more people centric” Effiong quipped

At Ibiono Ibom Local Government, the Senator presented One Million naira and One Hundred bags of rice to the people for Christmas at the council headquarters and was received by a large number of people who awaited his arrival at the council headquarters, Ikpa.

It could be recalled that the Senator had in December 2015 visited the people and donated millions of naira to the nine local governments that make up Uyo Senatorial District. He is one of the top ten Senators at the senate considering his robust legislative engagement with two bills already to his credit – the youth empowerment bill and the industrial revolution bill, the third being the Gas flaring bill and several motions to the Senator’s credit as well

In a related development on 24th December,2016 after the Distinguished Senator concluded his Senatorial tour, he presented keys of three cars to three of his constituents drawn from the three federal constituencies that make up Uyo Senatorial district in what appears to be his unique disposition to people over the years. 

According to one of the beneficiaries of the Senator’s cars who received a 2014 model of Honda accord- Saviour Ekongson said “The Distinguished Senator has a very large heart and has shown that beyond politics he will continue to affect the lives of people, what you are seeing today is to me a lifestyle of the Distinguished Senator as he Believes in the welfare of people”.  

The Senator had given out a 2014 Nissan Jeep, a 2014 Toyota Camry and a 2014 model of Honda Accord to those constituents and promised more during early next year’s empowerment.
