Encomiums as Emmanuel Umana bags award of fellowship

In recognition of his selfless service to humanity especially in the pursuit of peace and harmonious coexistence in the society, the institute of chartered mediators and concliliators (ICMC) penultimate, Thursday, honoured Dr. (Barr) Emmanuel Umana with the prestigious award of fellowship of the institute. Also awarded a fellowship of the institute was Hon. Justice Godwin Abraham.

Conducting the induction, first vice president of the institute and the representative of the National president , Mrs Nwagbo Margret, described the award as worthy and deserving. According  to her umana’s profile was enough to secure him a job in the presidency, advising Mr. President especially now that  the country is facing security challenges.

Speaking at the event, former chief Judge of the state, Hon. Justice Idongesit Nten Isua, charged the government at all levels and individuals to always explore the services of mediators and conciliators before litigations. 
Isua who is the first fellow of the institute in Uyo branch, noted that the current security challenges experienced in Nigeria can better be addressed through alternative despute resolution (ADR)” the fight against terrorism cannot be won through fire power and litigations, but by mediation and conciliation.

On corruption, the she asserted that the virus  has eaten deep into all facets of the Nigerian society and that the war against it should not be left in the hands of the government alone.

Fielding questions from journalists after the induction, Dr. Emmanuel Umana expressed gratitude to the board of trustee and governing council of ICMC for admitting him into the prestigious cadre of a fellowship. According to him, he joined the “Peace Chariot in 2002 galloping across the world particularly Africa and the USA, helping to debrief ex-militants of the Niger Delta, fostering family unity, teaching non-violence education, promoting peace and harmonious existence in and outside Africa.

The event attracted a mammoth crowd to the multipurpose hall of the judiciary along Wellington Bassey Way Uyo. Notable among them were members and fellows of the institute across the nation. Vice chancellor of the Obong University, Obong Ntak, Prof Ekanem Essang ,represented by Prof. Efanga James Usua, President of ICMC (Uyo branch), Barrister Chris Inwang, National Registrar of ICMC, Segun Ogunyanwo, chairman, Nigeria Bar Association (Uyo, Branch) Barr. Aniekan Akpan inter alia.
