AK CAN advocates unity of Christians  …Condemns dichotomy among Churches

As part of efforts to protect the interest of Christians, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Akwa Ibom State has extended its evangelization tour to churches in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district, with a call on Christ believers to embrace love and unity in order to fight a common course.

The state chairman, CAN, Rev. Dr. Ndueso Ekwere, who stated this last Sunday during the tour, stressed that one cardinal requirement for Christians to overcome the attacks of the enemy is unity, adding that such would enable them to have interest in one another.

At the Grooves Memorial Methodist Cathedral, Ikot Ekpene, where the state CAN chairman was received by Archbishop Sunday B. Uko, Dr. Ekwere said, “in a time like this in our country, we need to be very watchful and prayerful. Christendom today, is severely under the threat of Islamic extremism. This is the more reason we have to intensify our efforts in prayers and supplication to God, especially for the sake of our stain brethren

“I want to let you know that there’s a silent killing that is going on in Nigeria, and Christians are often the major target. As a body, CAN shall not be silent over this anomaly. We have to rise up against every plan towards Christians. Probably the reason these heartless Muslims are taking undue advantage on Christians is because we are not united; they tend to see us as a heterogeneous group that lacks strong bond…”

While citing the instance of recent Hausa men attack on Akwa Ibom indigenes residing at Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo, Rev. Ekwere urged the faithful to be more vigilant and careful in their dealings with strangers, even as he enjoined all to pray for Governor Udom Emmanuel so as to lead the people with divine direction.

At the Assemblies of God Church, Ikot Akpan Omon in Ikot Ekpene local government area, the state CAN Chairman charged the faithful to be more provoked into prayers in view of the trying moments witnessed in the country, noting that Christians shall no longer remain slaves to its enemies.

His words, “Nigeria as a country is our common entity. No group or religion can claim monopoly of it. Hence, we Christians shall no longer be silent to see our brethren treated as slaves in our land. The massacre in Southern Kaduna is just a typical sad example. Indeed, our weapon of warfare is not canal but shall involve spiritual force. With God on our side, we shall conquer this battle.

“No matter the plans that may be on course to terminate or wipe away the identity of Christians in the country, such shall not succeed. In the same vein, every attempt to Islamize Nigeria shall fail.”

Also speaking to Christian faithful at the Salvation Army Church, Ikot Obot Etim, Ukana in Essien Udim local government area, Rev. Dr. Ekwere emphasized the need for all churches to come together under one umbrella -  CAN, in order to chart a course for their general interest.

He however, used the medium to call on Christian denominations to shun what he termed unnecessary discrimination against another church, since the body of Christ is one.
