Ekid peoples Union backs Udom for second term

The people of Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State under the aegis of Ekid Peoples Union have thrown their weight behind their son Governor Udom Emmanuel by acknowledging his excellent leadership strides and endorsing him for a second term in office.

This position was made known when members of the Ekid Peoples Union led by the President Professor Asindi A Asindi paid a solidarity visit to Governor Emmanuel at Government House, Uyo.

The Union which is an apex organisation in Ekid Nation commended Governor Emmanuel’s dexterity in the deployment of the state resources for all- round development of the state despite the economic recession .


Professor Asindy said “despite the dwindling resources, the state under  Governor Udom Emmanuel’s watch has been able to fulfill its statutory obligations to it citizenry” and listed payment of salaries and other welfare packages to workers, laying of foundation for development projects across the length and breath of the state as well as other live touching projects as pointer to the excellent leadership strides showcased by Mr Udom Emmanuel.

He prayed God to give him the  courage, wisdom, robust health and resources to actualize the task of translating the state to the haven of his dream.

The Union particularly called on those glamouring for occupation of the Hill Top Mansion come 2019 to reconsider their reasoning and be guided by the principle of equity saying “what is good for the goose is good for the gander and no person should attempt to truncate the eight year tenure of Governor Udom Emmanuel, a true son of Eket senatorial district for reason of justice and fair play” .

The Union used the occasion to solicit for the reactivation of Qua River Hotel in Eket, the Oil Palm Plantation in Etebi and Qua Steel Mill through Public Private Partnership to facilitate job creation through the industrialization agenda of his administration.

The union made a case for the establishment of Akwa Ibom State Oil Mineral Producing Communities Development Commission to enable the state access the fifty percent of the thirteen percent development fund among others. 

Governor Emmanuel in his response assured Eket people that there is no going back on the his administration’s Blue prints of development and reiterated the determination of his administration to make Akwa Ibom an Industrial hub in the Gulf of Guinea.

While thanking his kindred for their support culminating in the endorsement the Governor called on the Elders to advise the youths against vandalisation of government and industrial facilities and always seek dialogue in resolving thorny issues.

He said “most of the request of the Union are awaiting implementation. I urge you to close ranks with other ethnic nationalities in the Senatorial District for more development programmes” .

Highpoint of the visit was a motion sponsored by Professor Etuk Etuk canvaasing the continuity in office for Governor Udom Emmanuel as duly seconded by a former State House of Assembly member Rt. Hon. Jack Udota and the presentation of a souvenir to the Governor by President of the Union.
