Ini Local Govt. celebrates Armed Forces Day

All roads in Ini local government last Sunday led to the newly constructed cenotaph at Odoro Ikpe in Ini Local Government area, the food basket of Akwa Ibom State for the celebration of the 2017 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

The legionnaires attended the event in their large numbers, dressed in their military regalia evoking the memories of the Nigerian civil war, chanting solidarity and war songs and also reviewing their military parades.

 Addressing the ex-soldiers who were in a very high spirit of jubilation, the transition chairman of Ini Local Government Council, Elder Israel Idaisin who was also robed in the military regalia saluted the gallantry of the ex-service men in fighting tooth and nail to defend the oneness of Nigeria.
 
Elder Idaisin however paid tribute to the fallen soldiers who died while defending the country. He solicited for cooperation  among members of the Nigerian legion while urging people in high profiled offices and public spirited individuals to show love to the family of the fallen heroes by providing for the needs of their families, adding that they pay a supreme sacrifice to keep Nigeria one. The transition committee chairman made a cash donation to the legionnaires while launching the emblem.

Speaking, the chairman of the legionnaires Ini chapter, Rtrd Major Tony Iseyen thanked the commissioners for Women Affairs Dr.Edet for constructing a new cenotaph in the area for the legionnaires. He expressed gratitude to the transition chairman, Elder Israel Idaisin for all the development projects witnessed by the people of Ini in just six months of his government. 

The retired Major charged all to show love to families of the fallen soldiers while requesting for the inclusion of the ex-service men in various programmes of government in the area.

The event witnessed the launching of Emblem Appeal Fund, donation for families of fallen soldiers, chanting of war songs, review of military parades and wreath laying ceremony.
