Okobo Youth leaders hold unity party …pass vote of confidence on Gov. Emmanuel

There was a conspicuous demonstration of unanimousness in Okobo recently, as leaders of youth groups and clubs as well as their members, drawn from across the ten (10) political wards of Okobo Local Government Area, assembled at Okobo Development union Secretariat, Okopedi, on Friday, 6th January 2017 in expression of solidarity, under the auspices of Amalgamated Okobo Youth Leaders Council (AOYLC).

This marked a Unity party and inauguration of College of Association Club Presidents held under the distinguished chairmanship of Hon. George Henshaw, Commissioner 1, AkwaIbom State Technical School Board.

In an exhilarating atmosphere, the event was graced by politicians, youths, man and woman of Okobo descent and AkwaIbom State, largely. Also, a number of young persons, who are currently serving as aides to the AkwaIbom State Government were in attendance including the SSA on Projects, who also doubles as the international President of EssuNlap Oro, Ulap Joseph BasseyOkon; the Special Assistant on Youth Matters, Comr. AniefiokIwaudofia; Special Assistant on Media, Mr. EssienNdueso and the Special Assistant on Reorientation, Mr. Joseph Okon.


Presenting a welcome address, the group’s president, UlapIniobongEsung noted that as a collection of youth leaders from all villages, youth groups and clubs across Okobo Local Government Area, Amalgamated Okobo Youth Leaders Council is committed to ensure a direct and yielding unity for the vibrant youths of the area. He acknowledged the effort of the young population of the empowerment of the young population of the state, while assuring the leadership of the state of the support of the youth leaders’ council as a formidable team, interested in good governance.

Speaking through Past,.UduakOkokon, the chairman of the event, Hon. George Henshaw expressed confidence in the youth body as a group serving a purpose of progressive unity. He expresses hope in the youths, and urged them to remain supportive to the current administration of the state and embrace the vision of the governor.

“I am hopeful that this admirable platform would be given its rightful place in the Okobo politics through this event. I urge you all to support the government and key into the dakkada vision of Deacon udom Emmanuel, then you shall all excel,” he stressed.

Presenting a keynote address on ‘Mental Servitude: A Malady that Kills Vision’, an erstwhile Leader of Okobo Legislative council, who is an immediate past member of AkwaIbom State Executive Council of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Chis Okon described the dakkada philosophy of the governor as an antonym to servitude. He emphasized that to leave servitude, the youths must shun political thuggery and all other forms of demeaning practices that represent them as slaves.

Those who would rise to such faith should not engage in idolatry, like worshipping fellow humans. The change we demand must begin with our ways of thinking”, Hon. Chris noted. 

Speaking separately, the youth activist Comr. BasseyBassey also expressed the readiness of Okobo youths to cue behind Governor Udom Emmanuel, reasoning particularly that Okobo has never had it so good than now that Udom is on the saddle. He maintain that with the numerous developmental projects spread across the state including Okobo, as well as inclusion of youths of Okobo in his scheme of things, that they will stop at nothing but to support the governor come 2019 in other to continue to reap the dividence of democracy.
