Abak TC Chairman hails Armed Forces sacrifice for national unity

Activities marking the 2017 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration in Abak local government area were rounded-off on Sunday, 15th January, 2017.

The event which took place at the Council Cenotaph featured march past by Legioners, launching of Armed Forces emblem and laying of wreath.

In his address, the Chairman Nigerian Legion, Abak Chapter, Major Christopher James (Rtd) expressed gratitude to God for keeping them alive to celebrate the event in 2017 and commended the Transition Committee Chairman for Abak, Dr. Emmanuel Udosen for his continuous support to the programmes and activities of the Legion. 
   
The Legion Chairman regretted a situation where they are only remembered once a year, and called on government to take the welfare of the Legioners as a priority. 

He prayed for God’s continuous guidance and protection to enable them celebrate more years. 

In his speech, the Transition Committee Chairman for Abak, Dr. Emmanuel Udosen said the day was set aside to remember and celebrate those who fought to keep Nigeria as one indivisible entity, pointing out that their commitment and sacrifices are worthy to be remembered. 


Dr. Udosen described members of the Nigerian Legion, Abak Chapter as law-abiding, level-headed and prayed God to continue to keep them alive and comfortable to witness more celebrations.

The Transition Committee Chairman advised the legioners to form themselves into cooperative groups so as to benefit from government and promised to link them to the state government AKEES programme. 

The Transition Committee Chairman commended the Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for the achievements he has recorded in the state, stressing that the Dakkada initiative of the state government has encouraged the people of the state to wake up from slumber and engage themselves in positive ventures so as to earn a comfortable living.

At the occasion, the Transition Committee Chairman laid wreath at the tomb of unknown soldiers. Others who laid wreath included the DPO, Abak, the Chairman Nigerian Legion, the Paramount Ruler, the Commander 36 Battalion Nigerian Army, Ibagwa.

The event was attended by Abak political class, uniform organizations, youths and women groups, NULGE and members of Abak Transition Committee.
