A group called, Boki Youth Vanguard has threatened to withdraw from the activities of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) if zoning arrangement is adopted in the fourth coming June 17, 2017, local government polls in Cross River.
Speaking with the Ink, the group Coordinator, Mr Kenneth Bisong, made this threat with over 300 youths,in a press conference yesterday in Calabar.
They warned against zoning of the chairmanship slot to Bunyia/Okubuchi ward in Irruan clan in Boki local government area by Nchibe Bokyi. There claim was that, the ward (Bunyia/Okubuchi) has already produced a senator and a House of Representatives member, two former council chairmen and one time military administrator of Bayelsa state.
The stressed on the duty of the group saying, “ the Nchibe Bokyi Association is not a political group but rather, a socio-cultural group that is saddled with the responsibility of uniting the people of Boki.
“ Since the creation of Boki local government area in 1991, the people of Kakwagom/Bawop ward has not benefitted from any elected political office, hence the need to give the ward a chance to produce the next chairman of the local government”.
The group also frown at circumstances whereby Nchibe Bokyi was not doing enough to put an end to the ongoing crisis between the landlord communities of the Boki palm estate that have left one dead over the tussle and several persons injured, but was rather discussing politics.
The group, however, called on Gov. Ben Ayade to intervene by supporting chairmanship aspirant from the Kakwagom/Bawop ward for the sake of equity and fairness.
They said, “The meeting that carried out the zoning was held against the instructions of the state governor when he announced that all political meetings be suspended forthwith.
“We are solidly behind Gov. Ayade and we want him to use his good office to allow the people of Kakwagom/Bawop ward to produce the next chairman of the council”.
