Ibiono Ibom agog as Otuekong Umah goes home in style

The calm and peaceful Itu Andem village in Ibiono Ibom ocal Government Area, last weekend lost its serene atmosphere, as people from all walks of life converged for the final rites of passage of a respected septuagenarian, the late Otuekong Akaninyene Akpan Umah.

Otuekong Umah who died at the age of 74 according to his biography was a dedicated entrepreneur who invested his experience in the industrial fortunes of Calabar Cement Manufacturing Company, Nebro Nig Limited as well as strings of petroleum businesses.

In a homily, Elder Michael Akpanudo eulogized the deceased as a devout Christian who in his lifetime contributed in no little way to the growth of the church, society and his community, calling on the family and those he left behind to emulate his virtues of devotion, industry and patriotism.

Describing Otuekong Umah as a legendary icon who did all within his powers to positively affect the world around him, his son, Mr. Imoh Umah recounted the many sacrifices their late father made to give them the best in education, morals and family life, noting the many battles he braved have stirred them to a life of courage and fortitude.


Imoh who is Regional Head, Corporate and Investment Banking Coverage  South and East, Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc regretted the demise of their father, who he said was the motivating and guiding light for their successes and aspirations, pointing to the large turnout at his funeral as a clear testament to his lifetime of service.

Promising to uphold the late father’s legacies the chief mourner, Christopher Akpan Umah said the void created by the demise of their father would be difficult to fill, noting that the late Umah was a man of many sides, who worked tirelessly for the peace of the family, community and the church.

Obong Bassey Albert, Senator representing Uyo Senatorial district eulogized the deceased in his message describing him as a man that was dedicated to community service.  He also commended him for his service during his tenure as the President of Itu Andem multi purpose co operative society.

The funeral which was conducted at the deceased compound by The Apostolic Church was attended by a flurry of imminent personalities including the Commissioner for Science and Technology Dr. Nse Essien, Monarch of Ogoni Land King G. N. K. Gininwa, Executive Director Finance, Nigerian Ports Authority Mohammed Koko, Obong Emmanuel Ukpong Udo, Nseobot Willie, Mrs Brown Aide Ideye as well as several other dignitaries at the weekend converged on Itu Andem Village to bid farewell to the.

The weeklong funeral activity featured several events including the Otuekong Akaninyene Umah memorial kitty held on Friday, April 14 2017 at the Ibom Golf Club, which Mr. Nsima Ekanem emerged winner.
