Preparations are on top gear to make Akwa Ibom State become the centre of medical appliances in Nigeria, considering the fact that almost all medical devices used in the country are imported.
This was the optimism expressed by the Executive Chairman, Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKICORP), Dr. Elijah Akpan, when he led his Team on a visit to Jubilee Syringe Manufacturing Company, a Turkish Company, located in Onna Local Government.
Dr. Akpan was full of gratitude to the State Governor, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, for making the State investors’ friendly and expressed deep appreciation to the Turkish investors for choosing to invest in the State.
He said that besides generating employment for our teeming youth, the project will also help to bring in socio-economic development to the State.
Flanked by his Executive Directors, Operations and Management Services, Mr. Imo-Abasi Jacob and Dr. Friday Antai respectively, Dr. Akpan was particularly happy with the investors, in view of the fact that the project is a 100% private driven; describing it as great.
The AKICORP Boss thanked them for inviting his Team to come on a site inspection of the Factory and assured them of Government’s readiness to create an enabling environment for them to operate; saying he foresaw other industries springing up in all nooks and crannies of the State.
Conducting his guests around the facility, the Managing Director, Jubilee Syringe Manufacturing Company, Mr. Gulabi Zubeyri, said that they started the construction of the factory in year 2016, disclosing their plan to start test-running production on 29th May, 2017.
According to him, the Factory, which will go into full production by the end of August of same year, will produce at a capacity of 350 Million syringes per annum, of 2mls, 5mls and 10mls, as well as other categories of millilitres on demand, adding that they planned to double productions next year.
Speaking further, Mr. Zubeyri also disclosed that they were targeting a capacity of One Billion production by 2019, adding that he was very proud of his Chairman, Mr. Onur Kumray, for committing such huge resources to invest in Akwa Ibom State.
On being asked the number of vacancies likely to be created in the Factory, the MD said they were going to employ a minimum of 150 people and were going to embark on a lot of personnel trainings.
The MD noted that the Communities in which the Factory is sited needed to be provided with some social amenities, therefore, opining that facilities such as hospitall, police station, fire service and the likes, should be built for them as forms of development
While commending Akwa Ibom people for their hospitality and friendly disposition, he said that as part of his company’s corporate social responsibilities, they planned to embark on the construction of a functional clinic for their host communities where they will not only employ, but would on yearly basis, bring in doctors from abroad to see to the health of the people.
Also on the Team were the Director, Investment Promotion & Appraisal, Mr. Aniekan Abraham; Company Secretary & Legal Adviser, Barr. Emmanuel Umoh; Heads of Departments of Entrepreneurship & Business Development, Mr. Emmanuel Akpan and that of Project Monitoring & Implementation, Mr. Sunday Ekpo.
Others were Dr. Ntiedo Ekpo, Head of Planning, Research & Statistics and his counterpart in Human Resources & General Administration, Mrs. Immaculata Essien, as well as the Site Manager of Jubilee Syringe, Engr. Shahab, among others.
