A’Ibom community condemns activities of sea pirates, cultists in their domain

Elders of Oro Nation, the third largest ethnic group in Akwa Ibom State have risen in unison in condemning the activities of sea pirates in their ways after several traders and passengers have been robbed and raped by the marauders.

Coming under the aegis of Oro Elders Forum, the Elders in a communiqué issued yesterday in Uyo and endorsed by its leader Ambassador Etim Okpoyo, a former deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State and the Secretary Hon. Asukwo Odiong in the same vein denounced the activities of various cult groups operating and unleashing mayhem on innocent people in their communities.

The Elders lamented that the activities of the sea pirates are adversely affecting the economic life of the people of Akwa Ibom State and urged the state and Federal Government as well as all security agencies to increase surveillance in their water-ways.

They commended the Nigeria Police Force on their efforts to check the activities of cultists in the area but urged them to redouble their efforts to stem the tide.

The forum in their communiqué expressed gratitude to Governor Udom Emmanuel for the ongoing dualisation of Oron-Uyo road and appealed for thorough supervision and timely completion of the high way.

They also expressed immense gratitude to President Mohamadu Buhari for the appointment of two of their sons Engr. Ita Awak and Engr. Benedict Ukpong into Federal Commissions and plead with Mr. President to extend the east-West road through Oron to Calabar.

Oro elders prayed for good health and God’s continuous guidance for Mr. President as he continue the performance of his constructional duties to Nigeria.
