The wife of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel, Wednesday, inaugurated no fewer than 215 units of Open Market sheds tagged “FEYReP’s Posh Sheds” at Obo Urban Market, Oduok Junction in Ikono Local Government Area built by the Itoro Columba led Transition Committee of Ikono Local Government Council.
The governor’s wife also presented certificates to graduands of a Skill Acquisition Programme christened ‘Martha’s Skilled Ambassadors’, a group of 355 Ikono youths empowered in 15 different areas of skills by the Itoro Columba led Transition Committee.
Mrs. Emmanuel while inaugurating the project commended the foresight of the Transition Chairman, Hon. Itoro Columba and his team for their audacious and sacrificial passion-driven approach towards delivering the dividends of democracy to the rural dwellers especially the women.
She said the project initiated and completed by the Council was an indication to the fact that the Transition Chairman, Hon. Itoro Columba and his team have the people at heart, and as well urged others to emulate their good gestures.
The First Lady also appreciated the people of Ikono Local Government Area for their love, support and solidarity to the PDP led government, adding that the Government of Deacon Udom Emmanuel was more committed to delivering more dividends of democracy to the rural dwellers. She charged the people of Ikono to remain united and support each other, as more developmental projects will locate the area.
In in his remarks, the Transition Chairman of Ikono Local Government Area, Hon. Itoro Columba while thanking the governor’s wife for honouring his invitation to inaugurate the project said it was named after FEYReP because of her pet project’s giant strides towards ameliorating and adding value to the susceptible in the society.
Hon. Columba noted despite the current economic realities in the country, he and his team decided to dare the odds by initiating the programmes, saying it is symbolic to the people of the area.
The Chairman of the occasion, Barr. Goddy Umoh, who also is the State Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party while thanking the governor’s wife for her visit also noted with pleasure that Ikono Local Government Area is blessed with the administration of Mr Udom Emmanuel as governor, stressing that Ikono is solidly behind the government.
Goodwill messages from a cross section of political heavyweights from the area all pledged their support to the administration of Mr. Udom Emmanuel as Governor saying the Governor and wife has performed creditably well, hence deserves the support of people to do more.
A cross section of the beneficiaries who spoke after the event expressed their appreciation to the Governor and wife as well as the Transition Chairman for providing them with a lifeline, promising to make exploits with the training received.
