A Chieftain of the Peoples’ Democratic Party and Chairmanship aspirant in Itu Local Government Area, Barrister Etetim Onuk has built and handed over a modern Bus Stop to East Itam Northern community; situated at Enen Atai Junction, a gateway to Ikot Anie, Ema, Ikot Ayan in Itam; Ikot Udo and Ifiayong Obot in Uruan Local Government Area.
The handing over ceremony witnessed a plethora of politicians and dignitaries from Itu, a rainbow of politicians from both the Peoples’ Democratic Party and All Progressive Congress graced the occasion.
In her speech during the ceremony, the Transition Chairman of Itu, Deaconess Elsie Esara commended the donor for his gesture which she saw as exemplary. According to the Transition Chairperson, while other politicians and aspirants are busy falling on each other to get to the “White House” the donor is already delivering dividends of democracy to his community.
The representative of Enen Atail Itam village head and Chairman of the village council; Mr. Nkereuwem Iwat thanked the donor for the timely intervention, salvaging the dilapidated structure to provide shelter for the motorcyclists, tricyclists and passengers, especially during this rainy season.
Professor Etok Ekanem, a chieftain of All Progressive Congress lauded the donor for his gesture, adding that the Bus Stop should not be used for vices such as armed robbery, rape and cultism.
In his welcome address, the donor Barrister Etetim Onuk sees himself as the biblical Nehemiah with a divine call to rebuild the ruins of the dilapidated bus stop, while pleading against any form of vandalism; he declared that there is no political undertone to his gesture, as individuals from all political divides will use the edifice. He however paid tribute to the entire political leadership of Itu Local Government Area ably led by Distinguish Senator Anietie Okon for drawing the attention of the Governor Deacon Udom Emmanuel to the erosion site opposite the Bus Stop. He thanked the Governor for his timely intervention on the site and Deaconess Elsie Esara the Transition committee Chairman for finding time to witness the occasion. He thanked the almighty God for giving him the grace to give back to the society that raised him.
In an interview with newsmen, the youth leader and Etubom Mkparawa of Enen Atai Itam Mr. George Utip poured encomiums on the donor for remembering the downtrodden of the society. He saw the donor as a politician with an agenda and a future wishing him success in all his endeavours.
Other dignitaries who graced the occasion includes, Rev (Mrs) Gloria Okarazu the Moderator of East Itam Nothern Parish of the Presbyterian Church of Nigerian, Hon Udeme Utip, Hon Kufre Ema, The village head of Ikot Anie Itam Chief Akan Ekong and may politicians from wards 6 and 7 of Itu Local Government Area.
