Eket Motherless Babies home receive succor, as little Mbre celebrates birthday

BY ASSAM ABIA

It was celebration galore for children of Idong Iniang Motherless Babies Home Eket over the weekend when little Prince Godswill David Mbre decided to celebrate his birthday with them at the centre.

Dr. David Mbre, father of the celebrant donated items which included bags of rice, toilet rolls, beverages, diesel to power the center’s generator and some cash to the home as a mark of gratitude to God for His mercies.

The children were overwhelmed with joy as they danced and dined with Prince Godswill Mbre after cutting of the birthday cake.

Speaking, Dr. David Mbre, a Chairmanship aspirant in the forth-coming local government election in Eket said the inmates of the home were like any other children in the world and deserved to be given a sense of belonging in the general society.

He pledged to donate diesel to the home on monthly basis to enable the centre power its generating set during absence of public power supply which has been a re-current experience in the home.

Responding, Mr. Chris Okon, Manager of the home thanked the family of little Prince Godswill Mbre for their humanitarian gesture and prayed God to reward the Mbres family for giving succor to the children who he described as God’s gift.

“Children are given by God, no matter the circumstances of birth. Some of them have lost their mothers after birth while some were abandoned but we thank God that they are alive today to celebrate a birthday with the child outside the home”. Mr. Okon said.

He said Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (MPN) no longer supports the home with donations and that the State Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel visited the home not long ago during his birthday, adding that the home usually experienced darkness as a result of constant public power failure and lack of diesel to power the generating plant.

Mr. Okon commended the wife of the Eket Transition Committee Chairman, Mrs. Frank Archibong for her constant visit to the home while calling on well-to-do individuals in the society to emulate the kind gesture of the Mbre family.
