Within the first seven months of her tenure in the popular Mary Hanney Secondary School in Oron, the principal-general of the Institution has describes her stay in the school as very eventful and achievements filled.
Making the assertion during this year’s Inter House Sport Competition of Mary Hanney Secondary School (always described as the cradle of female education in this part of Nigeria) the institution’s principal-general, MrsEduAsanaenyi contended that within her short stay in the school, about 20 part time teachers have been engaged and paid their stipends accordingly through the Intervention of the Parents Teachers Association.
On the area of providing essential facilities in the school, Mrs. Asanaenyideclosed that the bore hole pump which was stolen have been replaced, even as the school also won ten medals in the just concluded AkwaIbom State Youth Sport Festival.
Mrs. Asanaenyi who posited that physical activities are essential to the health and development of a child, similarly affirmed that Sports is necessary for fitness, smartness and good work for any Nation that also desire wealthy condition, adding that both mental, physical, economic, social and political well-being could be hinged on healthy body.
The Principal-general contened that with the foregoing importance of sporting and physical activities being uppermost in the minds of students, staff, management and parents of Mary Hanney Secondary School, Oron, the staging of 2017 Inter House Sports converge became absolutely necessary for the opportunity of the students to express and showcase their God’s given talents in sports.
MrsAsanaenyi however chipped in some of the pressing needs and inadequacies of Mary Hanney Secondary School founded many decades ago to include shortage of teachers in core subjects, affecting seriously the students to the ratio of 1:150 excluding the part time teachers.

Lack of Assembly hall to accommodate the increasing population of the students. Incessant harassment of teachers and youth corpers by armed robbers, non-availability of power supply to the computer laboratory since the solar energy was installed by the old girls of the institution.
While she applauded the untiring efforts of the Mary Hanney Old Girls Association (MAHOGA) in the development of their ALMA mater particularly in the construction of computer laboratory, provision of modern toilet facilities, construction of ultra-modern hall (now under construction), Mrs. Asanaenyi in the same vein commended the philanthropic gestures of the former Education Commissioner in the State, Prof. AtimAntai, Dr. (Mrs.) Isangedighi and other public spirited personalities who spearheaded the total renovation of the entire houses in the school premises.
The principal-general then passionately appealed to the friends, parents, old girls, well-placed individuals and organizations to come to the aid of the school by contributing their quota to the development of Mary Hanney Secondary School, Oron in order for the school to retain its hard earned glory.
Earlier, the Chairman of the event, Barr.AsukwoSellongEdem, the Director of Area Education Authority in the Oron Zonal Office had commended the management of the school, for taking bold initiatives to revamp series of infrastructures in the school and gave assurance that AkwaIbom State government through the education Ministry and other relevant agencies would be notified accordingly, emphasizing also that before the next sports season, more trophies and sporting equipment would be donated to the school.
Represented by his colleague, a deputy director in MboZonal Education office, Mr. Isaiah Okwong, Barr Sellong enjoined the competitors to aim higher and excel in their chosen areas of sport both in track and field events if they intend to shine as stars inAkwaIbom State, Nigeria and even in international tournaments.
High points of the sport confab was the appreciation with cash gift by the Bishop of Oron Diocese of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Rt. Rev. EfiongEsedeke to the girl who won six medals alone in the just ended AkwaIbom Youth Sports festival, donation of sports kit/trophy by a former principal of the school and mother of the day, Mrs Mary Udoh, among others.
At the end of the sport meet, purple house emerged top, followed by blue, pink in that order. Among the personalities who graced the well attended event included the PTA Chairman of the school, Mr. Victor Etim who also doubled as the father of the day.
Mr. Hanson Gaully, the vice principal academics, MrsEkaetteUkpong, vice Principal administration, the AkwaIbom State Chairman of League of Veteran Journalists, and a renown media consultant in the state, Chief Emmanuel Esifa, the games master, Mr. E. B. Edunam among others.
