The Transition Committee Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Mr. David Umana has allegedly gone amok and is under fire over his assault of his brother’s wife, Mrs. Ime Udom over land.
THE INK gathered that the Chairman colluded with a man whose identity could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report to use the land for their private purpose without the knowledge of Mrs. Ime who it is learnt is the rightful owner of the land.
On getting wind of their plot, the woman reportedly confronted the Chairman on the matter, but she was disappointed as she got the beatings of her life from the Chairman. On learning of what had befallen their mother and how the Chairman subjected her to dehumanising conditions, the widow’s children reportedly stormed the Chairman’s residence and retaliated. They are said to have beaten the Chairman to a pulp in retaliation for what he did to their mother.
Infuriated and humiliated, Mr. David Umana is said to have recruited all security apparatus at his disposal to hunt down the children of the woman who are said to be on the run having gotten wind of the Chairman’s plans.
The Chairman, it was learnt, is accusing one of the children of Madam Ime to be a cultist. A source who spoke in confidence noted that the Chairman wants to use his access to security agencies to get his pound of flesh. He explained that the Chairman is falsely accusing one of the woman’s children of being a cultist in order to use that to get them arrested. This move, the source said, will not work.
Mrs. Ime’s children, it was gathered, have concluded plans to charge the errant Chairman to court for assaulting and trampling on the fundamental rights of their mother. A close source who spoke with our reporter noted that the children are also looking to claim damages following what they described as an affront by the Chairman on their mother and the family in general.
Meanwhile, the people of Ikot Ekpene who bared their minds on the matter expressed shock over the attitude of the Chairman. They condemned his action, describing it as unbecoming of a local government Chairman that is supposed to lead by example. They wondered why the Chairman descended to such low level by beating no less a person but his brother’s wife.
THE INK further gathered that the assaulted woman, Mrs. Ime Umana has since been admitted in an undisclosed hospital where she is currently receiving treatment from the bruises inflicted on her by Mr. David Umana.
When contacted, Mr. David Umana responded harshly, failing to admit or deny beating the said woman.
