600,000 barrels of crude oil burnt in Mobil facility

About 600,000 barrels of crude oil was burnt in Mobil Producing Nigeria (MPN), Operator of NNPC/MPN Joint Venture Qua Iboe Terminal facility in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.
The fire was caused as a result of leakage of crude oil from one of ExxonMobil’s platforms.
A source who claimed anonymity disclosed this to the Newsmen in Ibeno.

He said that the incident started about 9 a.m on Friday, adding that there fire did not extend outside Mobil facility.

“It was about 9a.m on Monday that we received information that there is fire outbreak in Mobil facility in QIT, Ibeno as a result of crude oil leakage that burnt up to over 600, 000 barrels of crude oil was burnt,’’ he said.

He said that the items destroyed were within the Mobil facility and suddenly the fire fighters department intervenes immediately.

“The Fire did not extend outside Mobil facility to Ibeno community but it happened within the Mobil Facility and the items destroyed were within the Mobil facility,’’ he said.

He said that the fire destroyed property worth millions of naira.

He however said that the fire fighters had contained the situation.
Reacting to the incident, Mr Akaninyene Esiere, the Manager, Public and Government Affairs, confirmed the incident, but decline to make further comments.

“Let me get Lagos to respond to you, I don’t have access to my system,’’ Esiere said.
