Declaring the 21thh matriculation ceremony open which took place on 17 July at the Mini sports Stadium of the University,the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Comfort Ekpo, charged the matriculating students to see their membership of the university community as a unique opportunity to develop their innate intellectual and leadership talents and to exploit their hidden potentials.
Ekpo advised the students to develop a maintenance culture and avoid acts capable of jeopardizing their studentship in the university, adding that the University of Uyo has zero tolerance for cultism and examination malpractices and would not hesitate to sanction defaulting students.
The Vice-Chancellor enjoined the students to obey rules and regulations of the university, respect the rights of other members of the university community, uphold and promote the noble ideas, principles and values which the University of Uyo stands for. She reiterated the commitment of the University of Uyo to qualitative education and quality service delivery, while entrepreneurship education to make students self reliant would continue to receive adequate attention.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the University Management would continue to
run an open door policy anchored on fialogue on all issues and would not welcome violence, anti-social behaviour and ungodly activities.
Prof. Ekpo enjoined the matriculating students to dedicate themselves to studies and avail themselves of facilities provided in the university in order to excel and achieve distinction, assuring them of management’s readiness to do everything within available resources to make life comfortable for them.
While congratulating the matriculating students on their success in various rigorous screening exercises, the Vice-Chancellor appealed to all stakeholders, individuals and corporate bodies to assist
the University of Uyo to provide state-of-the-art learning facilities for the teeming students population so that they can corporate, with their colleagues globally.
The university also administered oath of good behaviour to all fresh students, this was witnessed by the Principal Officers of the University, deans of faculties parents and guardians.
