The Tower of Ivory Schools, Ediene Abak, last week Friday held a air of happiness as they rolled out drums to celebrate their outgoing and outstanding students.
The graduation ceremony which took place at the Godswill Akpabio multipurpose hall with the theme ‘Acquisition of Useful Skills and Attitudes as a Foundation for Survival in our Today’s World’, featured the handing-over parade, cutting of graduation cake, presentation of the Year Book, presentation of Testimonials, Awards of excellence and souvenirs to students and staff of the school as well as the presentation of the Akwa Ibom State Primary School Mathematics Competition Award, sponsored by the school.
In his remarks, the Chairman, Board of Governors of the school, DIG Udom Ekpoudom (Rtd), congratulated the outgoing students and described them as ambassadors of the school, adding that they have been seriously groomed with quality education to face the standard of higher education anywhere in the world. He commended them on their various accomplishment and successful completion of their secondary education, noting that the school will never forget their contributions as prefects in their various capacities.
DIG Ekpoudom who was the chief host said the School has trained the students to be disciplined humble, dedicated, hardworking, self-reliant, enterprising and creative to accomplish their dreams and urged them to always remain good ambassadors of their Alma Mata.
The former police chief used the opportunity to thank the parents for supporting the school in various ways and advised the graduating students to always read hard and avoid bad companies in their various higher institutions.
The chairman on the occasion Prof, Mrs. Ini Uko, while speaking commended the teachers for imparting knowledge to the students through high qualitative education and congratulated the outgoing students for successfully completing their studies even as she described the School as one of the best in the world.
Prof Uko who charged the students to always consider themselves as ambassadors of the school which they stand to represent in the society, maintained that the Schools have contributed to meaningful education in Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria at large. He also urged the under-graduates to always emulate the outgoing graduands by taking their studies serious.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Principal, Tower of Ivory Schools, Mr. Uduak Ekwere said the ceremony was the second graduation and prize-giving ceremony of the Schools since its establishment in September 2010, observing that the school has made tremendous progress especially in the area of providing quality education and giving appropriate exposure in training of the mind and impartation of useful skills to students.
The Principal further noted that the Schools which began with 36 students in the Junior and Senior Secondary category now have the higher school as well as the elementary school. He disclosed that the students population at present is 358 for the secondary category and 485for the Primary, with a total number of 185 academic and non-academic staff. He added that the schools are government-approved and serve as examination centres for NECO, WAEC and Cambridge International Examinations, mentioning that the Schools have received several Awards and Certificates of Merits from the state government and some non-governmental organizations in Science, Mathematics and Arts.
According to the Principal, “Tower of Ivory Schools was commissioned on the 26th of May 2011 by the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio. As a display of love for the high standard of the school, the Governor awarded scholarships to 31 students representing the local government areas of the state who are now transiting to secondary school. In the same vein, our Chairman, Board of Governors, Tower of Ivory Schools, DIG, Udom Udo Ekpoudom (RTD) supported the uncommon transformer by awarding scholarship to five students from the fourth Abak Division.”
On the academic programme of the Schools, the Principal said the Schools are comparable with the best in the world as it offers programmes like DELF and French International Examinations to develop students into world-class citizens. Such programmes, he noted the school is a partnering with the educational sector of the state to organize and sponsor, including the 2013/2014 Akwa Ibom State primary schools Mathematics Competition (APSMAC), targeted at addressing the challenges of teaching and learning mathematics from the grass-root in Nigerian schools.
In his lecture on the theme, Prof. Arch. Bishop Enomfon Akpan, charged the students to be productive in their different skills of endeavour in life, while Mrs. Eunice Thomas who was the Special Guest of honour congratulated the graduands and commended the schools for their determination and effort to help in raising good leaders who will add value to the society.
In her vote of thanks, the coordinator of the Schools, Lady Dorothy Ekpoudom thanked the parents, staff and everyone for contributing to the school’s progress. She also wished the outgoing students well in their future endeavours.
Responding, the outgoing General Schools Prefect, Aaron Etido Ekpo, thanked God for making them graduate; their parents and the School for nurturing them to be future leaders of Nigeria
A total number of 53 students were graduated from junior secondary school to senior secondary school while 13 of them were outgoing students.
