NUJ Chairman decries rate of nudity in Universities, Facebook
NUJ Affairs!  Forum of former State Chairmen of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council with Elder Patrick Albert (4th right), State Chairman of NUJ after a meeting at the NUJ Press Centre, Uyo, Wednesday, 23 July 2014
The alarming trend of indecent dressing embraced by our youths in the Universities and even taken to the extreme on social media have again been described as worrisome by the state chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Akwa Ibom State Council, Elder Patrick Albert.

Elder Albert used the occasion of the wedding ceremony of Mr Clement Barukui, a journalist working with the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) where he functioned as the Governor of the Feast to call on parents, most especially mothers to take actions that would reverse the ugly cases of nudity gradually being accepted by our youths in the guise of fashion.

While making his remarks as the Governor of Feast at the wedding ceremony, the NUJ chairman said, “Let me use this occasion to chip in words of advice and urge our parents most especially mothers to take interest  in the behaviour of their children. These days we have seen both men and women almost going naked at our Universities which are supposed to be citadels of learning. We have begun to see obscene images of our children; it is worrisome and must be checked.”

“The rampant rate in which our sons and daughters exchange nude pictures on facebook and other social media ought to be of great concern to parents. So parents should no matter what western civilization offers, your child is your child and we are duty bound to carry out the biblical injunction that we (parents) should train a child in a way he should go and when he grows up, he will not depart from it”.

Elder Albert described the solemnization of Mr/Mrs Clement Barukui as husband and wife as   rewarding and urged all friends and relatives to contribute their quota to ensure that the marriage is not only successful but a blissful experience.

Connecting the newly married couple to “the unction of freshness” which he said is evident in his over 20 years of marriage, the Governor of the Feast prayed that the couple be fruitful in all endeavours and procreate as God had given the responsibility of multiplication to man.

The traditional marriage and reception ceremony which took place at the Afaha Offot Town Hall was preceded by a church solemnization at the Charismatic Renewal Ministry, 18 Udosen Udoeyen, Off Abak Road, Uyo.
