UNIUYO SUG frowns at Tricycle operation around campuses BY AKANIMO KINGSLEY
Activities of Tricycle operators along Ikot Ekpene Road by the University of Uyo fence have drawn the attention of the leadership of the Students’ Union. The Students’ Union President, Comr. Ndiana Ekong expressed displeasure over the development in a media chat at his office recently.

Comr. Ekong who registered his grievances on the students’ behalf, maintained that it is not acceptable for Tricycle operators to turn the University surrounding into a park, thereby degrading and defacing the campus environ and thus, posing a threat to the safety of students passing by.

The Uniuyo Number-One student admitted that although the Students’ Union had earlier registered a complain to the school management who formally alerted the State Ministry of Transport to it, nothing reasonable has happened to that effect. According to him, the Ministry only removed them from the landscaped area by the fence. Meanwhile, they now park along the pedestrian lane still by the fence. He totally condemns it, suggesting that another place should be allocated the Tricyclists.

It would be recalled that since the new transport policy of the State Government came on board which restricts Tricycles from passing through Ibom plaza; several other temporary locations have been used as terminals.

Following this, Ikot Ekpene road by Uniuyo fence had since become a park for Tricycle operators.
