The recent promise by the State Governor that, roads in Atan Offot community in the capital city of Uyo Local Government area will be awarded and constructed, has received the commendation and applause of one of the foremost indigenes of the area and Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Prince Enobong Uwah.
In a chat with news men during his inspection duty around Uyo to assess the clean up work of his ministry, Commissioner Uwah expressed gratitude on behalf of Atan Offot people in particular and the good people of Uyo to Governor Akpabio for his magnanimity in considering the plight of the community and taking up the challenge.
Prince Uwah observed that the neglect Atan of Atan Offot Community by successive administrations in the state even though, she is the host community of the State Secretariat, Women Development Centre, Mechanic Village, The State owned Pioneer newspaper and several other key Government and non-governmental Agencies like the Nigerian Union of Journalists and Nigerian Institute of Public relations secretariats respectively has come to an end courtesy of Governor Akpabio’s intervention.
He assured that the people will co-operate with Government to ensure successful completion of the projects for the benefit of the people.
On the significance of the event, coming on the heels of the groundbreaking ceremony for the permanent site of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, secretariat performed by the National Chairman of the Party, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, Commissioner Uwah argued that, first it demonstrates that Atan Offot community have been good, exemplary and worthy hosts of Government edifices and projects in the past, leading to her choice to host Africa’s largest Party. He noted that, this will also boost the profile of the community and forever put her in the spotlight which is a welcome development. Prince Uwah added that, PDP is the party of restoration and hope, and the peoples best bet for the rebuilding of our nation, revamping our economy and rehabilitation of our decayed infrastructure as its coming to Atan Community is set to equally trigger in the short and long term.
He called on the people to continue to support Governor Akpabio and the PDP to support power shift to Eket Senatorial District as overwhelmingly canvassed by the people of the state and ensure that PDP wins every level of election come 2015.
