All is set for the grand endorsement of former Commissioner for Finance, Obong Bassey Albert, who has been given the coinage: OBA, by no less a group than the constitutionally recognized youth group, the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Akwa Ibom State Chapter.
It was gathered that 24 out of 31 Local Government Chapter Executives of NYCN met with OBA in his Uyo residence shortly after the funeral service in honour of the mother of State Secretary of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Mrs. Atim Ime Akpabio, at the weekend to finalize arrangements for what they said would be a massive political breakthrough.
At the meeting which featured some prominent chapter chairmen like Tony (Ibiono Ibom), Ifiok (Uyo), Ekom (Ini), and David (Eket), each Local Government Chapter was given initial logistics funds with a promise of mobility vehicle to each Local Government Chapter.
A source, who is an official, said they will do everything to ensuring the actualization of OBA’s Governorship success, saying “we are only pretending to be loyal to the system just to make the Governor Godswill Akpabio believe in us. We do not want to be dissolved by the state government nor be cut off from our financial benefits. I am telling you that OBA is our man and we will ensure he takes over.”
“All the youth leaders playing Governor Akpabio’s succession plan, Mr. Udom Emmanuel are only doing so for their personal benefit. All of them are busy building houses in Shelter Afrique Housing Estate and other metropolitan cities in the country. They are indifferent to the welfare and wellbeing of the youths. Our survival, for years now, has been on the shoulders of OBA and today you want to tell me that he does not deserve our mandate. Let me tell you, dead or alive, OBA is our man and we will usher him to the Hilltop Mansion come 2015,” a Chapter Chairman, who do not want his name in print, stressed.
Our investigations revealed that the constitutionally recognized Local Government Youth Councils in Akwa Ibom State are solidly behind OBA because of his philanthropic lifestyle.
One of them, a Local Government Youth Council Chairman in Uyo Senatorial District, described the former Finance Commissioner as a youth and the reason why all the youths in the state are rooting for his aspiration, saying “some of us are receiving monthly welfare packages from Bassey Albert, a man of the people.”
