Provost task students on discipline

BY KENNETH JUDE
The provost of Akwa Ibom State College of Arts and Science, Nung Ukim, Ikono Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Edward Ekpenyong has called on youths of the State to take advantage of the College in keeping their minds fresh and alive, rather than whiling away precious time at home doing nothing. He made this call at his office recently while interacting with newsmen.

He decried the practice where candidates who fail their JAMB results stay at home for years instead of engaging their time in productive ventures. He pointed out that the college has well planned programs for such students and therefore called on those in this category to take advantage of the limitless opportunity the college offers.

He used the medium to debunk insinuations that most graduates are unemployable, noting that it is a ploy to deny deserving graduates of job opportunities. He posited that Nigerian students who take their studies seriously can work anywhere if only they show know-how and competence in line with what they learnt in school. The provost who is barely a year old in this capacity bemoaned the lack of resources to facilitate most of the projects in the school. He noted that his lofty ideas for the institution will materialize if the much needed money is available.

For students nursing the idea of coming to the school, he cautioned that discipline is the watchword in the college, noting that there is zero tolerance for indiscipline. He also called on the media to help publicize the college, pointing out that so many people do not know about the existence of such an institution in the State.

Another unique feature in the College is the opportunity it offers students who want to gain admission into the College through Direct Entry. He said that a special Two-Year program is designed for such students who after completion of the process can gain admission directly into any University of their choice without the hassles of writing JAMB.

He noted that the college is home to provide top-notch technical equipment donated by Exxon Mobil to assist students in their practical works while pointing out that students of the College have constructed and produced a lot with the aid of the equipments in store.
