…commends A’Ibom media on vibrancy
The media in Akwa Ibom State has been described as a strong tool that has enhanced development and further set an agenda for sustainable development.
The statement was made last Friday in Uyo when the leading Governorship hopeful in the 2015 governorship elections in Akwa Ibom State Mr. Bassey Albert Akpan paid a visit to the chairman, League of Newspaper Publishers in the State, Mr. Uko Friday Umoh at his residence.
Mr. Bassey Albert Akpan, the immediate past Finance Commissioner in the state commended the media in the state for their giant strides in sustaining good governance over the years and re-affirmed his belief that with the forthcoming elections, the media will once again play that watchdog role in mobilizing and sensitizing the people of the state in sustaining free and credible polls.
He informed Mr. Uko Umoh who was also flanked by all publishers in the state that his entry into the Governorship race was to bring his wealth of experience and expertise to sustain the tempo of development in the state for the future.
He paid glaring eulogies to his Principal, Governor Godswill Obot Akpabio for the opportunity given to him to serve the state as the longest serving Finance Commissioner as he had discharged his duties diligently in his service to his state.
He further solicited for support and maximum co-operation from the media in the drive to sustain the new renaissance of development during his tenure as governor while further re-affirming that power can only come from God.
In his remarks, the Chairman, League of Newspaper Publishers Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Uko Friday Umoh stated that the day was memorable to him and that Mr. Bassey Albert Akpan remains a good brother and friend who had touched his life and wished him well.
He further reiterated that the succession for a new governor should be peaceful while urging Akwa Ibom sons and daughters to be objective in their choice for a new governor.
Present at the occasion were the Director General of the Campaign Organization, Pastor Sunny Ibout, Chieftains in the media industry in Akwa Ibom State, youth groups, women groups and other well wishers.
