AKHA committee visits Nsit Ubium, extols council boss

The Executive chairman of Nsit Ubium Local Government Council Pastor Ekpedeme Akpan has earned the high commendation of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Committee on local governments and Chieftaincy Affairs.

The commendation came, Wednesday, when the committee, led by its chairman, Hon. Aborh Uduyok, embarked on a tour of duty to the local government council as part of its oversight functions.

While being conducted round the council premises, the committee delegation had remarked on the high standards maintained in the council and singled out the councilors’ offices and legislative chambers of the council for special mention.

Pastor Akpan, who had earlier briefed the committee members on projects undertaken by his administration since coming into office, enumerated some of such projects to include the reconstruction, construction and rehabilitation of various classroom blocks, Assembly halls and offices in locations such as Ikot Akpan Abia Ubium, Ikot Imo, and Obio Ubium among others.

The council boss also highlighted other projects undertaken by his administration to include the provision of office furniture, implementation of complete free delivery services for pregnant women, and the provision of free eye-testing services including eye surgery, drugs and free glasses to over 2000 indigenes of the local government. In its remark, the Assembly committee noted with great satisfaction that most of the projects mentioned in the official briefing were found quite significant in view of its life touching potentials and the capacity to impact the needed development on the area and its people.

Commenting that the council was on good track with the uncommon transformation agenda of the Gov. Akpabio administration, the delegation, among other considerations, said it was more than encouraged as it has noted the requisite leadership direction offered by the chairman to the council and the huge success story he has recorded so far in the 15 months the administration has been in office.

In his reaction to the visit of the committee, the Nsit Ubium leader of the legislature, Hon. Michael Leo, spoke glowingly on the administration’s attainments.

He described as impressive, the good working relationship existing between the executive and legislature of the council; stressing that this had remained a commendable motivation that has mutually spurred the council into attaining some of its lofty and many sustainable goals.
